In Your Opinion...

apparently some goof in kitchener thinks his 10 yr old one is worth 9500 bucks..

http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-motorcycles-sport-bikes-2003-Honda-RC51-W0QQAdIdZ496976056

It may well be worth $9500 to him. My bike (That I am very happy with) is probably worth about the same but I wouldn't sell it for that amount because I would have to spend a lot more to replace it. To make it worth my while someone would have to offer me a ton more.

However I don't jerk people around pretending to want to sell it.

While not a fan of overpriced anything, not everything is run of the mill. A low mileage example of cult bike in the making is going to command extra coin. Seller is only looking for one buyer.

This.

People looking for this bike, will go check it out regardless of what the 'asking' price is, and work from there. They don't make them like that anymore.

This guy is nuts.

IMO 7500 is the most that bike is worth.

That much due to the low mileage. Higher mileage examples worth much less.

Although it is an RC model, it's not an RC30 or RC45 and NOT a limited Homologation bike.

It's a good bike but not really special.

BTW they don't make them like that any more, they make them BETTER.

For the rest of us ... can someone explain why the RC51 is a cult classic?

Word of mouth? Somebody says so. It gets repeated. Next thing you know it's a desirable item. Those not in the know couldn't tell the difference.

I never understood the fascination with the 51 :dontknow: Suzuki made the tl1000. Same idea. 1000 twin. There's something special about that?

The 51 was made famous by its impact on WSBK and AMA Superbike. The TLR failed as a race platform and pretty much flopped as a street bike, although I still have a special spot for the TL.

RC's just a fun bike with character that's aged well (IMHO). Twin and V4 sportbikes always stick out from the pack.

...but I sure as **** wouldn't spend 9k on one.

Thanks for the info

think ducati but designed and built by people with engineering degrees

nice one. :lmao:

I almost pulled the trigger on one due to the hype and should have bought it just to resell apparently! I could have had an 02 with 40k, damper, pipes , new tires and all for $3900. I still went with my R1 cuz the twin bored me!
To each its own I guess but I still like the hooligan aspect of my R1 and how sexy it is, the rc looked fugly to me.

RC51 is a nice bike, but not that rare. My buddy sold his 2003 for around $4,000 if I remember correctly. Was the Hayden edition but wasn't mint. I'd say 5-5.5G would be reasonable with a very low mileage and in perfect condition. Maybe even 6G if that's exactly what you're looking for.

$9.500 for that kijiji one is a joke. These motorcycles have only a mild collectors appeal.

Not all that much demand for them. The V-twin power delivery makes them interesting however.

It's obvious some people here don't think much about the bike, but enough people do. The bike is rare enough that clean lower mileage examples on the market in Canada are pretty hard to find. The forums still attract new owners almost daily.

The hayden edition was 04.

As people have said, he only needs one buyer. Here's an 04 SP2 in the US that sold for over $8k. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Rare...em=141006920954&forcev4exp=true#ht_500wt_1182

The RC is the prefix adopted for the large majority of works racing motorcycles manufactured by the Honda Racing Corporation (HRC), a subsidiary of Honda of Japan (quote from wiki). Not many bikes have ever been made by HRC. Especially those for public consumption.

The background, history, configuration, and low # of units compared to other litre bikes, make the RC51 interesting.

And then there are the HRC stamped engine cases. Saweeet....
