I think it may be time

I think it may be time to put the bike in winter storage. I was hoping for the indian summer to arrive and extend my season, but the medium term forecast is not looking too good. As an inexperienced rider (riding since end of July), I do not really want to battle the elements as I think this will present too much of a distraction for me. I find I need every bit of concentration I can muster to focus on what is happening around me. A bit sad, but something to look forward to for next year. I also plan to attend the motorcycle show in the spring. I do enjoy visiting this forum and reading about the riding experiences of others, always something to learn.

There's two months of riding yet at least. Only when the ice lays down is it nap time for me. As long as you realise your tires don't warm up too well and ride accordingly you should be fine.

Good. To be honest, right now the only riders you'll see are the serious ones who have been around and know what they're doing. Its good to realize you're not up to it and when to call it quits. Personally I hope on rolling into December...

I've got a fairly short commute to work so I hope to push it until the end of November. Last year was my first season and I made it to December, but this year it seems to be getting much colder. If I had a longer commute I'd probably not do it as it's quite cold at 7am, the way home is much more enjoyable and the short distance makes it doable.

An extra layer of clothing, and watch out for cold rubber. Otherwise, enjoy the ride.

i ride till it snows or till the weather drops below zero. right now i havent been out all week because of the cold but any time it gets over 10 ill be out enjoying the riding and ill slow acclimatize to the weather till the white dirt falls.

A couple extra layers up top, new chaps for the lower half (shoulda seen the look on my wife's face..) and I'm good for at least another six weeks.....

I was riding around this afternoon in the sunshine and found it quite pleasant without any real extra layering except having the liner of my jacket installed. With the very light traffic it turned out to be an awesome outing.

I saw a ton of riders today, even came accross a couple of riding groups around town.

I'm going to ride till I see snow/salt

Good for you. Good decision there.
It is best to keep your concentration on high when you are still new.
It is not easy to focus on riding alone when it is cold.

I was going to start ranting about how there are still two months left to ride.
Last year was great. I rode up till the middle of December.

But like it was said above, only the experienced riders should be out in these conditions.
Don't forget that traction is waaaaaaay down in these temperatures, until your tires reach any warm temp. Even then, it's dicey.

I went riding Saturday it was pretty cool 5 degrees plus really windy, then I got rained on. It made what have been an otherwise boring day a good one. Actually saw quite a few riders out that day. Today was a beauty day for riding. Went up and rode up airport rd to 89, turned around found a trail road, explored it a bit and went home. Lots of riders today, and they all waved ! All in all a great weekend of riding.

Highs of 15 this week and next week, at least once. Couple of 14s.
Let's not be too dramatic with this cold weather stuff.
Yes, it's not so nice any longer but you layer up a bit and you're good to go.

^ what he said. I think the O.P. is pulling the panic alarm. I don't like to ride below 13C and this afternoon was really nice. Fall riding is fun, ride up north and enjoy the Fall colours. Even for the dude who doesn't like to be cold you've got at least 3 - 4 weeks left!

Just to add. When the temps drop below 10 you're gonna have a hard time building heat in your tires and the cold road is gonna suck out Any heat you have when you slow down a bit so be mindful of that when riding in this weather. That doesn't apply to just turning but Also stopping

how long will it take for your tires to warm up on a morning like today?7* is pretty cold.

They won't. Not enough to matter at least.

having said that it was a nice ride in today. Had to put a softshell under the jacket.

Last winter was a beaut, had my bike out every month of the year (including Dec/Jan/Feb) as each one of those months had at least a two day stretch of 7+ degree weather, hoping that this winter carries the same trend.

Took it out on the 401 at 4C on Sunday to head home from Thanksgiving stuff with the fam, don't have heated gloves/grips, and my new "winter gloves" aren't really doing the trick, so it was a chilly ride but still doable. It does seem to be much colder than it was at this point last year, but I think there will still be plenty of nice days left in the season for the fair weather riders. Something tells me I won't be keeping the bike out until December again this year, though.
