Hello all,
Last time I posted in here I was looking for a local welding/fabrication shop. I ended up finding one through a member on here and never looked back, we now do alot of work together.
So my next conundrum, I have a little business where I make small items of furniture from reclaimed materials, usually pallet wood: www.sonofawoodcutter.ca. Trouble is I never have enough material, I source a little here and there and then and it's back to square one. I have a couple of guys in the city (pallet manufacturers/re-conditioners) who spare me a little when they can, but this hard winter didn't help. I need a regular supply of pallet wood, I currently pay $0.50c per piece of wood at the moment, I then process it myself. I don't currently have the space to process and strip the pallets myself and this would render my product unprofitable anyway. I believe that 50c per piece of old scrap pallet wood is good money, I thought I would have people queuing up with material for me. If I put an add up on Kjiji I get 10's of people 'applying for the job' and sending me pictures at the back of an old warehouse saying "its all yours, come get it!"
Most pallets are 40" wide and by the time I trim them straight they are 39" which is too small, so I need 42"+ so I can trim them down to 40". The best places I have found are hot tub manufacturers as the pallets are huge and easy to strip down, some piano ones are the same too.
So does anybody have any smart ideas? I would literally drive to Halifax for a truckload if anybody knew of a place I could buy from. And if anybody knows anybody looking for some extra cash, that can source it from whereever and bring it to me to process, but remember that I don't need whole pallets just the slats.

Can anybody help? Any suggestions?
