How to get TV Channels with antenna

I live in the east end of port credit so I have more trees then buildings around my house. Are trees going to screw with the signals?

Honestly speaking, with the advent of media alternatives online (i.e. Netflix, HULU, etc) and a good HD antenna, you don't really need much more.
The biggest hurdle is if you're big into sports, there are a few online streaming places you can go to, but the quality isn't the same unless you like watching it on your laptop/tablet. Having said that, going to your local watering hole and nursing a couple beers during a hockey/football game isn't so bad considering you're not paying Triple Digits/month just to watch 2 channels you like and 150 you never touch.

With an HD Antenna, I get 11 Channels but really only watch 3-4. CBC, CTV, CityTV and Global. You have your news in the morning before work and at night when you're home, not to mention they have MOST of the popular shows. Everything else, you can find online. With the binge watching of entire seasons of TV shows, I can't sit through a 20 min show with 10 min of commercials and then wait a week for the next episode. That seems so archaic. YMMV.

Might take a while to get the type of setup you like/want, but honestly, you don't need to watch that much TV anyway, and the extra money you save can easily offset other expenses, like bike insurance! :D

I want to watch speed & discovery, lol

Depends how high you place the antenna.
Check out tvfool for an idea of height and what channels you can get, with what type of antenna.
You can build one yourself, or you can buy one. If you buy one from say, Canada Computers or Tiger Direct, they have a good return policy and if you don't pick up jack squat, return it no questions asked. Downside: you might be paying more for the antenna itself, plus side: you're not on the hook if it doesn't work out.

For the cost of a 24 of Heineken, you can try out one of these for example: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=164_165&item_id=021645

Well, what exactly do you watch on Speed? most racing events can be found online.
Also, what shows on discovery?

Looks good. I may try that. Cable blows and with a good internet connection I'm able to watch pretty much whatever I want. Thank you.

I love cable because of the convenience. While I am eating, I have down time & can watch something. I don't want to hunt for TV shows to download. Plus how would I know if there is a new show out? I've gotta channel surf in order for me to tell if I like the show.

Fair enough.

Combining something like an internet PVR (i.e. sickbeard.com) with reviews from forums (i.e. the what-shows-to-watch thread) or sites like tv.com or anything with a ratings system, answers all of your questions. There are sites that organize shows by popularity, number of views, reviews, even direct link to torrents/RSS feeds when new episodes air. Limitations of traditional TV are being left behind. Only thing it's good for is surfing through advertisements in between shows. To each their own though.

edit: to add further, consider the scenario that the new trend in 'binge' watching shows, allows:

Makes it way easier to get people into the show.

Before:

"Oh you should totally watch this show I started watching, it airs tuesdays at 8pm on AMC." Implying you 1) Are free tuesday 2)Remember to start watching it at 8pm and 3) Have the channel on your television package and 4) Don't mind not being caught up on the current season as you just heard of the show.

Now if you have an internet connection you can gauge your interest on the show anytime you want and anyway you want. You don't even need Netflix to easily find and watch Season 1, Episode 1 of Breaking Bad, but can easily get it for an easier distribution of the rest of the show.
