How could it get any worse.. (Texting and driving - mini rant)

If it isn't enforced, as it currently isn't and as I predicted when the bill was announced, it's meaningless.

The only time I've ever seen it enforced were at ride checks and if you're plainly obvious by talking on your phone beside a cop at a red light. Hell I've seen cops talking on their phones while driving - but of course, they got "special training" to do so.

In case anyone questions what happened:

LMAO..........that's being cut off "HARD"? LMAO some more.
FYI - being cut off HARD entials repairs / damage.
Two weeks ago, I got near run over in my car by a dunce ***** in a mall parking lot driving a big *** SUV, at 20kph. Thinking she was going to avoid me, even though both her hands were pounding away on her Black Betty on top of the steering wheel, at the 'last milli second' prior to impending impact, I yanked my car to the right to let her avoid me, and I hit a curb. My right front tire exploded upon impact. I didn't realize the full extent of the damage immediately. I've since parted with a little over $1300.00 to fix the front end to get it to drive straight again.

The thing that made this incident even more nerve racking is that the person tailing me was this silver SUV - when I looked at him, he was having the time of his life in his car:

It is enforced, only when they are not busy. lol. I see more provincial cops enforcing it, than the municipal guys.
And yes, police/fire/ambulance are all exempt the law.

Roadwatch is your friend.

I saw a ****** in a nissan convertible yesterday with a full out TV strapped to the BACK of this passenger seat (facing traffic behind him) palying some stupid racing video from a video game of his car or something. IT was sooo bright late at night and so distracting. Like why do you even have that? You can't see it....there are no seats behind you either...wtf....his license plate was POONJABI. IF you're going to do stupid s*** like that then don't get a vanity plate where its so easy to report you

135 degree viewing angle and no signal. Make of that what you will.

They're specifically exempted, under the law.

Yes, we have inconsiderate drivers here in Toronto and yes, they do not care if they squish you and your beloved ride like a bug. This is the danger we live with as riders. Let's face it, people in Toronto are not nice people.

We should all move out of Toronto. I feel safer and get treated better on the road when I ride away from Toronto to Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa. They are more considerate and seem to have better driving skills.

I watched it again. A couple times.
Not familiar with "Tronno", but at 0:02 - 0:03 it shows you in a left turning lane (according to the white painted left turn arrow you ran over). In Hamilton, you're supposed to turn if you happen to be in one of those lanes. Does "Tronno" have it's own set of laws?

It was a left or straight lane.

The air horn was hilarious though. Makes me wanna get one.

I've done this before, and the lady on the phone started yelling at me telling me to mind my own business.
I then said "You're driving like an idiot!".
She responds by saying "You're driving like an idiot!". (Guess she couldn't think of a comeback as I doubt she even saw us cause we were a couple cars behind)
I laugh in her face and said "Are you blind? I'm not even driving!" (passenger) -> She sped away.

She really was driving like an idiot though... Cutting traffic closely non stop and hammering her brakes hard after cutting someone cause the person in front of the people that she cut wasn't very far away.

This is on Ruthorford Rd right outside Vaughan Mills btw.

I believe I know that lady!! I have seen her before in action.
Actually, everybody drives like an idiot around that mall and mostly around that neighborhood

Haha.... Woodbridge

I did a mini survey during the Winter (when I had to wait at the bus stop for 15-20mins) on how many people were using their phones while driving and how many were men or women.

During that time, (if I remember correctly) about 60% of women driving were on their phones either texting or talking and about 30% of the men were texting/talking. These drivers ranged from their teenaged years to probably late 50s. During this time, 1 woman ran a solid red light (I was at a bus stop at a traffic light).

I find that women are more inclined to be on their phones all the time vs men especially at mid-old age. Hell... I have girls on my FB page posting up pics of random **** and uploading them to instagram while travelling at highway speeds (recently one of the girls thought "Oh! There are a lot of BMW's around" and started snapping pics left, right and center while driving). I rarely see guys doing that unless they're stupid and want to brag about how fast they're going (usually 180).

My bad. Apologies.
Had to look at it again (once more) and saw the straight through arrow.

The straight through is partially erased because it was repainted, on the cheap, when they started construction several years ago. The lane that I was in used to be left turn only but had to he made left and straight, due to traffic volumes.

How have you seen it enforced? I cannot imagine you'd be so lucky see cops pointing at a person with a cellphone in their hand and on-going call ....

As far as I am concerned, in our society, it is not enforceable law ... not like speeding anyways. Much easier and hassle free to do with a revenue at the end ...

Bike cops with helmet cams. Cameras are good quality and cheap and it's undeniable proof. Nobody suspects cops to be on bikes. Very easy for a bike cop to get close enough to see it themselves before the texter realizes they are being watched.

I've seen them ignore people who are using their phones while they're stopping people for making illegal turns from York onto The Gardiner westbound. The obvious reason; targeted sweep. They were told to stop people for illegal turns, so they only stop people for illegal turns.

I think the penalty for texting/talking phone in hand while driving should be the same as the 50 over.
2K-10K fine and possibility of imprisonment.

On the road there is NOTHING more dangerous than a driver not paying attention. it doesn't take 500kmh to kill someone.
hitting a motorcycle, bicycle, pedestrian even at 5kmh can kill, when texting not paying attention.
not to mention forcing road rage on all surrounding drivers by driving like an idiot, restricting passing and causing others to swerve and pass on the right.

I've noticed it's more so the drivers who are barely able to driver, whom i have no idea how they got their license that seem to be texting and causing havoc on the road. 75% female, 25% male.
and worst is females in east end of GTA. i really think there needs to be a crack down on this by the police.
best approach would be undercover cruisers and bike cops, cuz they'd be able to get up close and stop this danger on our roads.

Reminder to all riders. Keep an eye out in every direction when riding, it's not just the danger of being run over from the rear, but even swerving cars lane to lane etc..

frankly i usually have a tough time deciding whether i should pass the person or stay behind them, cuz not sure which would be safer... get in front and have them run me over, or stay back and have to avoid the possible 2-3 car accident that will be caused.

cheers.

Well said. Let some people start to get their cars impounded for being completely stupid. Would take a while to change anything but eventually even the morons might catch on
