How could it get any worse.. (Texting and driving - mini rant)

Well said. Let some people start to get their cars impounded for being completely stupid. Would take a while to change anything but eventually even the morons might catch on

I'd rather see laws like HTA 172 repealed, than see more abuse of our right to a fair trial. Just enforce the laws that we have.

yes toronto is generally bad...and most of the suburbs are worse.

i do feel however that just some courtesy would go a long way. like in this air horn incident, if it were i that was cut off, but the driver signaled properly and gave me a thank you wave after he cut in, i would think "well, traffic is rough and im glad to help a fellow driver in" i do give thank you waves every time i change lanes that i think i needed to make the driver behind me make room for me. sometimes it happens. traffic is rough, i admit i need to make a dick move and i thank the other driver for helping me out.

on the flip side of this coin, when i let people in or stop to let someone pull out of a tough left hand driveway, and they give me that look of, "yeah you better let me through cuz im the king of england" i really do wish that sometime that attitude will kill them.

Yes, we have inconsiderate drivers here in Toronto and yes, they do not care if they squish you and your beloved ride like a bug. This is the danger we live with as riders. Let's face it, people in Toronto are not nice people.

We should all move out of Toronto. I feel safer and get treated better on the road when I ride away from Toronto to Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa. They are more considerate and seem to have better driving skills.

I agree with you but realistically it's a cash grab and never going to happen. They need to at minimum amend that law but it should be thrown in the trash along with a pile of others.

I agree. by no means am i saying i support HTA 172. absolutely i hate that law as it does not improve safety.
Speeding is NOT the problem. the licensing system/process, Alcohol and drivers not paying attention while texting, THAT is teh problem. just saying if gonna put into play a rediculous law, at least make it apply to something that is actually risking lives.

Which is exactly what people believe the stuff covered by HTA 172 is. If you call start saying that something is incredibly dangerous to the public and has to be stopped, you'll always find a politician who is willing to pander to your fears. Even amplify them. What we have to do, as electors, is take back reason and stop playing to this sort of thing.

I once witnessed a magical woman swerving in and out of traffic, driving a stick, smoking a cigaratte and texting at the same time. I was actually rather impressed.

Couple observations: it's nice to see the word "*********" making a comeback and also the turn around vis-a-vis in car phone usage. Doesn't seem that long ago the pro drive and dial ran about 100-1. Conventional wisdom had it that if you can't drive and operate a phone concurently you needed to gtfo.
