Back in 2023 or 2024 I compared a Toyota Camry base model to a Tesla 3 Long Range. I picked the Long Range to make it equivalent in range although it is actually less. I had to laugh when someone told me the Tesla was luxurious...till I saw the inside of one.
On the manufacturer's sites I priced them out including all extras (Freight & PDI, AC tax, tire tax, GST, etc) and I even allowed the $5000 rebate on the Tesla giving it a clear advantage, one would think. Well the out the door price was $19K in favour of the Camry. On the price advantage alone, at that time driving the average of 20K kms per year, the Camry got me about 8 years of free gas while I still had to charge the Tesla.
Insurance (full coverage): I drive an Acura RDX Elite ($731) and compared it to the Tesla 3 LR ($1529). The RDX is $798 cheaper and I save that every year along with $1900 I save every year on the out the door price in ten years. Hell the insurance on the Tesla 3 LR is $450 more than my Porsche GTS that costs 4 times as much.
Then the resale value of an EV is drastically lower than a gas car.
Need a battery due to damage? Might as well buy a new car.
But as long as you are happy with your EV, that is all that matters.
