Honda NC700

Originally the fuel economy did kind of make me interested in this bike but everything I read says real world is close to 50 US MPG or worse which isn't that much better than bikes like the SV650 or Ninja 650R... there are people that get close to 60 US MPG on those bikes.

Got a demo ride set up for noon today on an X.

If the rain holds off for the most part, I'll share my experiences

I'm intrigued by this "new concept" of a motorcycle and I love the amount of work that went into making the bike efficient AND efficiently

eg. cutting the rear rotor out of the front

eg. oil and water pump being driven directly by balance and camshafts

eg. coated pistons to reduce friction and aluminum rocker arms to reduce mass

I also really like that the cylinders have been canted so far forward

We'll have to see just how much that low CoG helps disguise the bike's 480-lb curb weight

I'm curious about the real world mileage too. I have a feeling the sub-50 mpg figures for the NC include a lot of wringing the bike out

Conversely, to get 60 mpg on an SV you will be riding at a steady 100 km/h and nothing more

If the NC doesn't at least approach 70 mpg at that speed I think it will have missed the mark

Fun bike

Torque like a freight train. Pulls in every gear from 2000rpm

Geared well to make use of the powerband. 100km/h in top gear shows about 3000 rpm

Not a fast bike by any means but for a beginning rider such as myself it's enough power.

I'm 6'1 and I found it to be a bit cramped for my liking, though. Not enough room for my legs to be comfy on a longer ride.

No real wind protection to speak of. There is an accessory tall screen that maybe would help in this department.

Definitely "flickable"

Nice bike and I still like the concept but I wasn't as "wowed" with it as I hoped I would be.

I still highly recommend to take a ride on one.

Did you ride the automatic or manual? How's the short shift if it's manual? Takes some getting used to while you bounce off the limiter?

manual and no, i got used to short shifting instantly

two reasons

1) i was pre-conditioned to expect it so i kept it in mind

2) i currently ride a small dual sport so I'm used to a low-rev powerband and shifting early

If the bike suited me better ergonomically I would likely buy one
