Helmets

Re: Helme

I just bought a brand new Arai Vector 2 shipped to my door for only $298. $270 before shipping. Quite pleased with this deal.

My last helmet was a Shoei RF1000. It took a hit in my crash, so I had to repace it for safety reasons.

Re: Helme

The carbon fibre cannot be absorbed into your bloodstream, so if you were to get small fibres in your bloodstream, the bits would work their way through to your heart where they will tear at the pumps and you will die. - True story (as told by my materials lab tech in engineering school).

That's true of just about anything. Fibreglass, nylon, aluminum, steel, rubber, just to name a few products on your bike that will not be absorbed into your bloodstream. If you crash and have open wounds, it isn't the blood flowing in you need to worry about; it's the blood flowing out.

Although I suppose it's true you don't want to shoot up with carbon fibre.

Oh great, NOW you tell me...

Please do share where you found this deal. So far I'm looking at $500 for an Arai RX-Q shipped.

Ebay!!

I've been keeping my eyes open for ones priced that low for a while. A couple have come up witha buy it now option of between $250-$300, but they kept getting bought by the time I could message the seller about the price of shipping.

Last week one came up as a true auction. It happened to be be ending later in the night and over the weekend. It was a store selling it There was no shipping price for Canada listed, so i said eff it and bid anyways. I won. I lucked out and shipping via USPS was only $28 too! :D

Just watch ebay. You can narrow your search for items within certain price ranges. They come up, you just need to be patient and jump on them when you see them.

I got my new Carbon Fibre Helmet today from GP Bikes for $300.00 + tax I (I added the gel stickers) and you can see it is ECE rated and the weight of it 1160 grams +/- 50 grams!

CF helmets are nothing new....in fact CF/Kevlar has been used by Shark, Arai, etc etc for years, albeit they painted them....

and CF is no lighter than fiberglass or kevlar, its just that the CF is all the craze now and for the last 10 years

True...but it still looks cool and it is cheaper from when it first came out!

Re: Helme

Carbon DIoxide is not a toxin. It will asphixiate due to oxygen exclusion (i.e if that is all there is in the atmosphere around you, you choke to death, same is true for many gases though, including nitrogen) but it isn't toxic in itself. Carbon MONoxide, on the other hand, is very toxic.

I've never heard of any toxicity related to carbon fibre exposure.

Only when working with it, mainly from the resin fumes. It's similar to fiberglass. CO is very dangerous. No colour or taste and it has a greater affinity for hemoglobin than oxygen. It essentially suffocates you.

Carbon is toxic? Lol where did you get that from? You do realise all organic matter, including your own body is carbon based? I think you might be thinking about carbon dioxide, which is a toxin to our body.

As far as I know, all humans exhale carbon dioxide as part of the breathing process, which I think keeps us alive.

You may be referring to carbon MONOxide, as toxic to humans.

Re: Carbon Fibre being toxic. There was a document from Two Brothers on how to cut their CF pipes shorter to remove a damaged area, etc. There was a huge toxic warning about the Carbon Fibre "dust" (from cutting it). I tried to find the link but I couldn't. I guess if you're cutting it (i.e. exhaust, etc.) then wear a good mask :)

its not the carbon fibre it's the dust. Any fine particulate is bad for your lungs, some are worse than others.

Only on this site could a person put up a picture of his new helmet, and it turn toxic. Literally !

Two wheel in Guelph carries those helmets. They are very light indeed and are one of the few helmets that fit me well, probably my next helmet. As for price, $300 +tax (same as GP apparently) with both visors is quite good imo. My head shape seems to be expensive as the only helmets I've found to fit well were Suomy and Arai, making the sticker shock of this one tolerable.

I just ordered this new Carbon Fibre Helmet made by Kaos for $300.00 excellent price for a really light helmet, fits real nice & it comes with 2 visors (clear & smoked)
I was at GP Bikes place and the Rep from Kaos was there...good timing!

OP - are you saying it's on sale right now? Was thinking of popping by today!

FASHION POLICE ALERT! I think you may have overkilled the Ducati decals.. The one in the front looks alright but the two in the back are a bit much, no?

Ummm...... where did you learn science? If C02 kept us alive, we wouldn't be exhaling it, would we?

Go sniff some straight C02 and let me know what happens.....
