Hardwired USB weatherproof charger

For those willing to go with a temporary solution. 2.1A output, half the price of the comparable Optimate. Available at Royal.

Town Moto on Ossington also stocks these for $20, and the Optimate with SAE connector for like $35. I believe the Optimate has auto-off under 12.4v

Where can i find the USB plug with the "auto off" function under 12.4v's?? Ive been trying to look for something that would work off the ignition so I dont have to plug and unplug/worry about my battery going dead. Any one have it installed on a SS?? Pics would be GREAT!!

Thanks!

Great thread! I have been trying to research about this for the last week and have been getting so many conflicting answers on various forums. Some people are saying that if you have one of these ports installed the battery will be drained in a couple of days regardless if a device is plugged in.
So if I was to install a USB Power Port or Cigarette Lighter Port and leave the bike sitting for a couple of days, would that drain the battery on my bike? Also, where are more of you mounting these ports on sport bikes?

I've got one installed and left the bike for a couple of weeks without a tender, no problems starting it up.

I don't believe a cigarette lighter socket draws any power when nothing is plugged into it, it's just a direct extension of the battery's terminals, whereas the USB socket does have an idle draw, depends on how (in)efficient the electronics are. I've read anywhere from 1-10 mA.

Mine is connected to a switched circuit, Bonnevilles don't like parasitic draws.

Quite correct. The Triumph EFI twins are known to be sensitive to this. A switched circuit is the best idea.
