Got rear-ended 2.0

Glad your alright but 2 rear enders in 2 months? It's time to review your mirror watching policy at stop lights.
I was rear ended, its easy to say this crap but most times there isn't anything the rider can do about it.

We all observe "that guy" or "that girl" distracted texting and having an "oh **** moment" once they realized they almost rear ended someone and then closing the phone. There are really bad drivers out there, they all plugged to the Horeinstagram and must post their latest selfis so they get 100 comments back that makes their insecure soul feel good, so while they read the latest comment, the poor smuck waiting at the traffic light gets it, there are no after market lights that will fix this.

However the more you can do the better.

Got a few people on my Facebook that do this and I never understood why..
Same asian girl (double whammy lol):
1. Taking pics of her going 180km/h
2. Saying "Wow, there are so many bmws today" and taking pics of every BMW that passed by while travelling highway speeds.
3. Typical "Beautiful sunset while driving"
and it goes on for every stupid reason you can think of....

This always calls for troll posts and informative posts of the illegality of her actions and how it puts people in danger. As usual, people don't take kindly to these kind of posts and get protective.
ex. me: "180 cause thats as fast as your can can go?"
her: "No, my car can go faster, I just didnt want to".
me: "riight..."

Come to think of it, there were actually a lot of people over the years that posted themselves going 180 on the highway... They're cool.

Even though my bike is really fast, I never go above the speed limit, and I always take 30 km/h ramps at 30 km/h!

I am a Saint.

(Or maybe I'm just not stupid enough to post ding dong that can get me into massive doo doo).

On a serious note, I've actually been unfriended from a few ppl on Facebook when I tell them straight up "if I catch you taking pictures in your camera, I will break your mirror"...because I'm a great friend!

Thing is, we all know that no matter what we say to them, they will continue doing what they're doing until something does happen. Once something happens, there will probably be one more person paying attention on the roads and another few hundred thousand that aren't.

OP You are a lucky guy, walking away unscathed from 2 rear enders. We need legislation changed to hand out demerit points for texting and using your cell while driving. If we can change the attitudes for drinking and driving, though difficult and with slow progress, we can do the same for distracted driving. These societal changes are hard to get through to people. An education campaign, legislation and enforcement is needed.

Poor little fizzer. Happy your doing well. Do you think not having the red stock taillight housing is playing a factor in drivers not seeing you from the rear? It doesn't look like a write off; the front fairing, slider, chain guard, bar end, and engine cover are not too expensive.

When I was buying the bike, my only concerns were regarding the flushmount signals and integrated tail light as they are not the brightest stuff on the market. That being said, I dont think it plays the greatest role here. There is no stopping of rear-ending. Sure the probabilities change once you ride as if on the M2 exit and check all the mirrors and have the brightest LEDs but people are always impaired or distacted or too old to drive.

This guy already had an accident on file. Im not sure what kind but he was at fault once again.

The parts alone in US without tax and shipping are $1800. Canadian prices + the labour = write off.

This is what Im hoping for now. I was told by the insurance that a write off ( + buyback ) would be the quickest of the outcomes. Whats the status for you now ?

Glad you`re ok. Had an accident a couple of weeks ago. And what you feared actually came true for me...bike is a write off since repairs are $10gs lol. yours doesn't look too bad so hopefully you get a break. Also, as someone suggested on my thread (BusaBob ....or something like that)....you can always buy the bike back from insurance if they write it off...especially if there's no frame or serious damage.

i think there may be a bad string of luck going around with the fz6. i too have suffered a rear ending. calf is a bit blue. arm is a bit hard to raise and some minor scrapes. insurance would only deprive me of riding july and august so i'll keep the write off rolling.

Update:

Bike is totaled. I'm offered $5069 OR ( $5069 - HST ) - 19 percent, which is $3600 + the bike back. I'm waiting for the approval for the buyback now, which is supposed to come by the end of today.

Would I be able to replace the bike for $5069 ? Most likely no, although I bought it for $4k in the off season. So, I hope that the buyback is approved at this point, and I can finally get out of the cage =)

Warning on the buy-back: the bike will be flagged with MTO as being written off in a major accident, this will be a problem if you try and sell the bike, or trade it in.
"Would I be able to replace the bike for $5069 ? Most likely no, although I bought it for $4k in the off season." -that kinda doesn't make sense.

I got the check for $11401. Didn't buy back because there is frame damage. Also almost $10k to fix. If i had the space i could've taken it just for track but one car garage, not much space. Now i`m looking to buy another 2011 cbr 600. Scouted one that is identical so i`m hoping i can get it by next weekend. This 5 day hold on checks sucks.

While I am no fan of most aftermarket lighting ... That brake lamp is the same size as the OEM brake lamp.

Next time ... It might be worth finding a couple of aftermarket really bright red LED strips that you can build into the rear of the bike somehow, and connect those to the brake circuit through a brake light flasher (leave the original brake lamp alone).

Yes, technically, there might be a legality problem with having "flashing" red lamps, but I've never heard of anyone who has done something like this in a reasonable manner, getting a ticket for it. Any police officer with a shred of common sense ought to be able to figure out that a motorcyclist doing something to enhance their visibility is a good thing.

Further to Brian's point, I made a post on CBRXX about doing this exact mod on my Blackbird. Took about 1/2 hour. http://www.cbrxx.com/canada/21033-quick-dirty-2nd-brake-light-cdn-content.html

This thread was helpful because I sometimes flatfoot it on both sides in neutral. I didn't really realize that there is no "running light" like cars have on all the time. Or is there? Well, for night stops might be good idea to always be on the rear brake. I'll have to check and see.

Yea I will keep a well documentation and keep papers to show how it was only due to cosmetics and so on, but either way, Im gonna have to adjust the price for it =(

For the part that didnt make sense - off/on seadon prices fluxiate a lot, especially on more rare bikes as mine. I see fazers on kijiji that are stock, and more expensive than mine while in worse condition. Mine has over $1000 mods + brand new tires on top of it all....

Sorry, but wouldn't the 'write off' in Ontario mean that the bike will get branded and will not be "streetable" - i.e. can only be tracked since VIN on the frame is 'branded'?

What your talking about is the salvage title. From my understanding, every salvage is written off, but not every written off is salvage.

I know you don't want the bike to be a write off but going through insurance puts a ding on the jackasses record and helps all of us if he can't afford insurance. Sorry to hear that said jackass can't afford to pay up though =(

Unless he just doesn't drive with insurance which then we're all screwed. Glad you're okay!
I always give people the chance because I know how much of a rip off insurance is. That is assuming they are nice and apologetic about it. Accidents happen sometimes. If they're giant d-bags or screw around with paying me I make the call to insurance ASAP, though.

**** that. You really are nice though.

In the past two days, I've had one tire and a whole damn wheel fly off a car and at me (two separate instances). You ****ing damn well bet I'm going to screw that vehicle driver/owner over as much as I can if they hit me.

I just hope I never have to make one of these threads =(

you will want to check to see if the bike VIN has been branded. if it has been branded you will have problems later on ... e.g. i know of someone who did a buy back on the branded bike even tho it was only cosmetic damage. but because it had been branded no insurance company would touch it for collision / comp. coverage. they only provided liability.

since you still own the bike (you haven't signed the ownership over to them yet) you should take the money they are offering you and go and get your aftermarket parts. you can then find another fazer for 4k and put your 1k of parts back on it...

my 2 cents

Thanks for the heads up. Insurance company had to investigate whether my bike was written off due to receiving a salvage title or not. My bike hasn't, since the damages are only cosmetic. So, life goes on for the fazer =)
