Got rear-ended 2.0

I know you don't want the bike to be a write off but going through insurance puts a ding on the jackasses record and helps all of us if he can't afford insurance. Sorry to hear that said jackass can't afford to pay up though =(

Unless he just doesn't drive with insurance which then we're all screwed. Glad you're okay!

This might be a REALLY stupid question, but OP are you on at least 1 of the brakes when stopped? It's not very common, but I have seen some people who can just flat foot on both sides just put their feet down, meaning their brake light is off.

Huh, that's odd. I put both feet that on the ground when I stop and still have a brake light on. Oh wait, I have hands too so I can use the front brake lever.

You're bike doesn't look too bad, definitely did a number on the car though, so nice job. Hopefully that'll teach the driver to pay attention.

Well, I think what conundrum meant was that usually people put it in neutral so they can give their hands/wrists a break, so if hands are taking a break and both feet are on the ground logically there's no brake light. When I put it in neutral I still keep my right foot on the rear brake but that might just be because I can't comfortably flat foot the bike so it's comfier to use one foot anyways.

As for the OP, think of it this way....you're not unlucky that you've been rear-ended twice already, you are DAMN LUCKY that you got rear-ended twice and walked away with no injuries. Trust me, my car has been backed into once in a parking lot, love-tapped from behind at a stop, and rear-ended twice which resulted in $6-8k repairs (once at a complete stop on the 401 with a SUV going 60 km/h into me). Unlucky? More like why isn't my neck and spine in a lot of pain, and thank god I wasn't on the bike or I'd be minced meat. My car is black...but I only get hit in plain day wtf!

Not a good idea on using the front brake while stopped. If you've been braking hard, those pads get really hot and concentrate the heat on one part of the rotors, and when you take off, they cool down at different rates and you may warp your rotors.

That's nice BUT

If the bike is a write off, means that no matter what, the OP has to put some money down out of his pocket to replace the bike for something similar, unless he downgrades to an older/worse bike.

I understand why he doesn't want to go through insurance.

Really depends on luck. I have a buddy who had a written off GS500F due to a rear end launching the bike and bending the forks. Insurance paid $5000 for it, he bought it for $3000 lol

never seen that before, but that is exactly what I did when I read that.....hahaha
its amazing the **** talking that goes on at timmies and then gets transferred to gtam via a poster.

No wonder I no longer go to GTAM meets, I have heard it all... including **** talk about me and others once I leave.. According to idiots here I am over protective because I don't smile, well I am not smiling because this is the type of **** i hear, not because I am "protecting" anyone!!

End of rant lol

Out loud I said "you gotta be f****ng kidding me" You have worse luck than I do! Any accident you can walk away from is a good result though. Glad you're ok. Sorry to hear about the bike but I'm sure you can fix that or you'll end up with something you like even more if not

Glad you`re ok. Had an accident a couple of weeks ago. And what you feared actually came true for me...bike is a write off since repairs are $10gs lol. yours doesn't look too bad so hopefully you get a break. Also, as someone suggested on my thread (BusaBob ....or something like that)....you can always buy the bike back from insurance if they write it off...especially if there's no frame or serious damage.

Glad you are ok man...you do NOT have bad luck.you, on the contrary are one of the luckiest, having survived not one but two crashes...

Was the previous crash also in broad daylight???

perhaps putting on OEM rear tail light might help?

As the title says, got rear-ended for the 2nd time, in less than 2months:

Just as the last accident, this one also happened when I was at a complete stop. I'm not sure at this point whether I'm or the bike is jinxed =(

I had little scratches and stuff and my knee bent the gas tank somehow, but I'm fine. Not going through the personal injury claims for sure, although I have 10years to report, just in case

Going from the scene to home, I was seriously considering giving up on riding on the street for the first time ever, but can't become a ***** all of a sudden from a fender bender, can I =)

I waited for a week for the other guy to put the money together for my estimated damages ($2000-$2500), but turns out he can't. I am going through the insurance now unfortunately, and there is a fat chance the bike will be a write-off =(

Visible damages are on:

Front fairing
Side fairing
Frame slider
Engine cover
Gas tank
Exhaust pipe tip
Rear tire hugger
Bar end

Strange enough, the rim is still not bent, which both Big John at Big John's Bike Shop and two mechanics at Z1 confirmed.

I'm hoping at this point that the bike is not a write off and the repairs don't take too long. I'm getting a rental car (econ class lol) apparently, but I'd rather get a CBR125 =(
no...you have 10 years MAXIMUM of ability to receive benifits from the date of the accident, past 10 years they hold no liability for medical.
if you claim 9 years 11 months after the accident they are only liable to cover 1 month of medical coverage then you are SOL.

Never been to a GTAM meet, I hear this "bs" from seasoned mechanics.

I think I passed along side you on the 401 yesterday afternoon with the bike in a uhaul trailer?

Great you walked away from a couple of rear enders. If insurance is involved (his and maybe yours) you might get denied because of those crappy Chinese tail lights and signals. Good luck!

Glad your alright but 2 rear enders in 2 months? It's time to review your mirror watching policy at stop lights.

theres a reason for the "ugly rear fender"

those tiny brake lights and signals would be impossible to see

While I am no fan of most aftermarket lighting ... That brake lamp is the same size as the OEM brake lamp.

Next time ... It might be worth finding a couple of aftermarket really bright red LED strips that you can build into the rear of the bike somehow, and connect those to the brake circuit through a brake light flasher (leave the original brake lamp alone).

Yes, technically, there might be a legality problem with having "flashing" red lamps, but I've never heard of anyone who has done something like this in a reasonable manner, getting a ticket for it. Any police officer with a shred of common sense ought to be able to figure out that a motorcyclist doing something to enhance their visibility is a good thing.
