Getting The Most Out of Winter

Now that'd be fun! I wonder how the cars would do if they also had studded tires...

I'm doing it this year on Lake Scugog (Port Perry). I got an extra set of rims and studded rubber for my R1 :) I need to buy a smaller rear sprocket or larger chain though because the studs hit the front of the swingarm :(

Any reason Canadians can't do this? Takes nothing to plow a track on a lake.
Canadians have been ice racing for decades.

GTA who needs a lake ( besides it wouldn't freeze properly here anyways )

I think you need a longer swing arm or smaller diameter tire. How do sprockets or chains improve the clearance?

In any case I hope to being riding again this winter since I've found a spot just 20 minutes from home. It's spooky at first but the studs really hook up.

Right now my adjusters are at their very front of their adjustment. I've got at least an inch I can slide em back if my chain was long enough :) I only need to get the wheel back about 1/2" to clear the studs, so if I drop a few teeth in the rear (or grab a few extra master links and/or new chain) I should be good to go :)

Can you buy studded dirtbike tires or do you make them?

My dad lives right on a lake up in the boonies, we could make our own track and go nuts:)

You can get snow studs meant for street use on scooters, too. I've read of a few guys using them on street bike tires for riding in the winter. Spaced widely so as to not hurt your grip on pavement too much but enough that if you hit some ice you get a bit of safety. Never been brave enough to try it, though.

What are those fork mounted frames? Guards to prevent arms/legs getting shredded by the studs crash?
