McDs right out of the oil are my fav. Johnny's Hamburgers used to be my go to for fries when I was out that way every day. Being a regular has its perks, didnt know you get that many fries in a box!! Havent been there for years so not sure if they are the same now.

NO MAYO on fries.
Only accepted condiments are salt and/or ketchup.

Don't even think about malt/vinegar. 🤮🤮🤮

Unless you are eating a poutine. In which case the only poutine that is acceptable is the an "original" without any additional crap in it.

Curry ketchup. I had this on fries in Belgium, the motherland of fries.

There is a chip stand on Horseshoe Valley Road, just northeast of Hwy 26. Awesome fries and hot dogs.

My home made fries are the best. I had cut Yukon Golds, fried in use salted peanut oil till 1 shade past golden brown.

I only do them outside in the summer.

Fry guy? It's been for sale for a bit as owners want to retire. Not sure if it sold yet or if a potential.new owner will screw it up.

EDIT:

"October 10, 2022

Last day of 2022, hard to believe 26 years in the books.
An especially strange day with retirement looming, but the business still for sale.
All the best, have a great winter and check back for updates!"

Oh that place at the top of the hill…was wondering about that place as the cottage is nearby.

Seems like a good location but can’t recall seeing much traffic there during the warmer months.

I met a girl back in university with a bit of a country/redneck background. Her family bought a fry truck and she was telling me about it one day. Turns out they are freaking profitable. The raw materials (mostly potatoes, oil and fuel) are super cheap compared to the price of fries. As long as you can work out a good site, preferably one with a weekly or regular event like a demolition derby, farmers market, etc. And you can make a killing firing up the fryers once a week or every couple weeks.

There are a few restaurants around that do true pomfrites , double fried and in the best steakhouses finished in duck fat . It’s almost an art .
If your someplace and they say on the menu steak frite , ask if they are genuine frites , most servers give you blank stare . They are a true joy when you can get them .

It’s like ordering a risotto, if it hits the table in under 40 mins, it’s tasty rice , not risotto.

A friend was out with his wife and when they stopped at a chip truck she made a comment about turning a potato into a five dollar bill, referring to the profit. He went out and bought her a chip truck and towed it home. She just about killed him.

It sat in their back yard for a year before they sold it, never frying a single chip

This is the truck. She mentioned it in her social media as recently as last summer.

I guess that five dollar bill for a potato didn't seem that good of a deal on the other end after all.

Could be but I'd need to see a bigger picture. It was years ago.

They reopened this year.

"
Better post an update.
We are back! Same owners and family since 1996. With the turn the market took last year, the sale never happened and we weren’t ready to say goodbye to The Fry Guy.
So we are back again for another year, but you will also notice we are still looking for someone to buy the place and hopefully they will want to keep The Fry Guy the beautiful gem it is today."

McDonald's is the best if they're crispy. Too often I end up getting limp fries though. The best McDonalds are in Europe. I always make a point of visiting when I'm in Europe.

Swiss Chalet is gross unless you soak them in sauce or are 70 years old.

Chip trucks are hit and miss. Should be crispy outside and fluffy inside. I'll take fried from frozen over fresh if they're limp or if the inside isn't cooked enough.

Hippy Chippy in Peterborough was the best until they were taken under by local political corruption. Anyone passing through Peterborough this summer, please pass by the Cabin locations. A local politian's brother in-law decided to get into the french fry game and all of the sudden Hippy Chippy and Reggie's couldn't get their permits renewed. They were the best chip trucks in town with the busiest locations.
