Ebike require motorcycle licensing?

I'm not privy to her particular circumstances, it would be unfair to comment.
I probably should not feel sorry for her but I did, she was nice, she was smart, she did the job better then most,
she made some really bad decisions to get busted and that will haunt her and keep her down for a very long time.

If I had a short enough commute I’d sure as hell buy one. Why bother getting sweaty before work?
So long as I’d feel comfortable parking it and could make the distance both ways (last job was 80km return) I’d get one. But too far and highway all the way. And frankly the 401 doesn’t do much faster than 50-60 during rush hour anyway.

According to the cops they get stolen regularly and without plates who do they go after.

Then why aren't those cops doing a bait bike program?

Somewhere between they dont care and they dont have the time/resources. Ebikes are relatively low value and I would wager a decent amount of money that the majority of the thefts are being committed by indigents. Courts dont like locking them up as it's too expensive and most are not dangerous, just annoying. So you would spend time and money adding convictions to someone that probably already has tons with very little punishment or change in behaviour. I just dont see the upside.

Catching criminals?

... if they don't want to curb a recognized theft problem that leaves it to the owners and they don't want that :devilish:
government likes to have exclusive rights on law enforcement.

I would argue that catching without doing anything to prevent it from reoccurring 24 hours later is useless. If the courts did something effective, I am all in on your plan.

Yes, the government wants exclusive rights on law enforcement. That's why they spend more time and money on a vigilante than the do on the criminal that caused the problem. For every vigilante there are probably 100+ criminals. It's just cheaper and more news-worthy to try to crush the viglante.

I assume they can only fall down the stairs in division headquarters so many time before it would take the edge off moto thievery.

Technically if you have a suspended license due to a DUI you are not permitted to operate any motorized vehicle, so an e-scooter/welfare hog--even though no license is required--would (should??) still be a no-go. The problem, it is not enforced so the DUIs all end up on them.

As for theft, the cops can barely care about stolen motorcycles and not at all about bicycles, so why would they care about these things?

I wish I could ride this throughout the city, it would make inner city commutes so much more fun. Also I wish this didn't seem like such a huge scam. 2019 Hot Trend SUPER FAST BIKE -Free Shipping / Ship in 24 Hours

It is too fast to be considered an electric assisted bicycle in Ontario, but doesn't look like it complies to motorcycle requirements, or LM license stuff.

That's just a straight-up scam. There is no way that bike would ever be $100. Even at the full price of $350, there is no way. That battery pack alone is ~$1000.

And you are right, that thing is useless in Ontario. Private property owned by you only (or race event that has insurance).

Found the base of the above scam. But I still have the same feelings unfortunately regardless of the cost being 25x more,

Most clowns on E-bikes have had their licences taken away due to DUI. Since they cannot get insurance, they get an E-bike.

Two X's in my mind

They do followup, get caught operating an ebike (or anything with a motor including your riding lawnmower in your back yard) while under DUI suspension and they pounce. You lose the ebike (or pay the martial law penalty of $1-2K for impound), get at least 6 mo added to your sentence, and a minimum $5K fine.

Don't be ridiculous. I've seen drunk drivers get pulled over when drunk.
Already been charged with DUI 3 times, no licence, no insurance and they are escorted home by the Police.
Paperwork is a biatch.

Probably have seen me post this story before but I went to fight a speeding ticket in Guelph years ago and saw a guy charged with DUI get sent home free because he had so many charges and so many unpaid fines and had already been in jail multiple times that the judge just gave up.

Fack. Cut his hand off. It worked for centuries. Obviously his problems outweigh concern for the safety of the public.

Alcoholics and drunks have different problems with the substance and need to be treated differently. However when their car is parked on my chest I don't really give a damn about what course of correction they need.

I am a socialist at heart but get discouraged when I see repeated abuses of social kindness. It can be the repeat drunk driver, the repeat assisted housing abuser, or any of the other dysfunctional social attitudes we see on a regular basis.

Stalin's gulags and Hitler's gas chambers aren't on my solution list so what do we do?
