Do you do a pre-flight check before every ride?

I didn't read every post but noticed a discussion on TPMS. I've been using the Fobo Bike 2 TPMS sensors for several seasons. Worth every nickel.

The sensors are wildly accurate and makes checking tire pressures simple. On every bike I have had, checking with a tire gauge is painful.

While more expensive than other options, the app and units work flawlessly giving me confidence in a very important detail. The app also sends real time alerts if your tires are too low or too high. This is an adjustable setting on the app.

My mantra is to do post ride checks. That way you have time to correct any snags before the next ride. If you rely on pre ride checks, you might find something amiss just as your buddies show up and you have to bail on the ride or risk going with a known problem.

Could have done better today. Odd-feeling steering turned out to be low rear tire pressure, which wasn't low a few days ago, so there must be a puncture. I limped it home, added air, sprayed tire with soap and water ... can't find the leak. Tire is about two-thirds done, so if this turns out to be an unfindable slow leak, I'm not too distressed.

Valve?

I just picked up the FOBO Bike2 from another rider and so far am liking it. Matched very well with the pencil pressure gauge I have, so am confident. I like also that I can check pressure after a ride and see how the tires increase by about 10% after a long ride and temp wasn’t even that hot.
I also check oil level during the week. Once a month I check brake pads for wear and movement. Battery is over 8 years old so I think I am on borrowed time, voltage is up to 14.1 while riding. Spin back tire to make sure all sounds good and nothing odd. That’s about it.

It's possible. Valve stem is original and therefore 21+ years old. It's one of those things I've thought of replacing, but never had that thought at the same time as actually doing the tires. It's going to happen this time.
I would spray some soapy solution around the stem and inside or you will never know the real cause of the leak! And it will bug you indefinitely!

I'm guessing these (or less likely but also possible, the more expensive and more accurate bolt on tpms that macdoc uses).

You would have to buy two sets as the tire pressures for the front and rear are different in most cases, be it a two or four wheeled vehicle.

I also wonder how accurate and precise they are.

And I only do a pre-flight check in the aircraft I fly.

Agreed. I run different pressures in all 4 of the Urals tires. Highly doubt those Chinese things are accurate.

I wonder how much of a pressure change it would take to go from green to red and would it be gradual or quick.

And should they fail and lose air, I would think it would be a slow leak as all you need is a pin hole, it being static and not dynamic.

Held pressure overnight. Piece of contamination in the valve core that temporarily held it open?

(it's getting new valve stems at the next tire change, which will be soon regardless)

I found the valve core inside my BMW F650GS was bent the other day. It was still working just fine, but I removed and replaced to be on the safe side. I guess I learned they can get bent?

I use a good tire pressure gauge like this one. With tube tires you use it more frequently than tubeless. I don't like tpms. It's just another nanny gadget. (no, I'm not a luddite @MacDoc). A regular check of your ride is all that is needed.

I use those as well and agree, would recommend.

on my last tire change I replaced the rubber valve stems with metal ones.
