Castro nationalized all the American holdings when he went communist. IIRC Coca Cola owned the sugar industry and the hotels were owned by American chains. The US hit them with embargoes with the exception of cigars, a necessity of life for the USA rich.
Because they couldn't get parts for their vintage cars or import new cars they put in soviet engines. That part of the US plan backfired because it added to the Cuba car thing.
The Bay of Pigs invasion was a disaster. The Cuban missile crisis etc got the American shorts in a knot.
Politically, I support Cuba to a degree but when I travel I like the freedom to mix with the locals. That could have numerous health and issues from crime to social interactions stemming from rejecting their hospitality in fear of maladies.
Right now the POTUS-God of the USA is getting shredded world wide on everything from his Melania connections, his world dominance obsessions, his toilet training and plundering of his own people. If Fox news went down for a week the icing on his manure cake would get pretty thin with bare patches showing. He needs every diversion he can get.
Vietnam killed more Americans than Cuba and cost more American dollars. I don't see the hate there.
