COVID-19 potential restrictions on riding?

.... Be interesting to see Niagara Falls without tourists.
I bet it looks the same. ;)

It's like the grand canyon, you walk up to the edge of this big hole in the ground that is too huge for the mind to comprehend and you go Wow!...... thats a big hole. same as you would do now without the tourists there.

First ride today. Full gas tank was a 1.34/l from last year. Took a ride around Lake Simoe, speed limit is 40km. Packed my coffee in a thermos. Stopped once in a parking lot 50 yards from anyone. So no contact what so ever with anyone. However there were plenty of people walking in groups 4-10 along the lake. I will stop riding once they completely lock down. Until then, I will ride alone without contact, its the same as people riding bikes, walking etc.

I got out for a brief ride today, weather beautiful, zero traffic. Reminded me of when I moved to Markham as a kid.

About the same as it was in winter before the casinos. You could roll a Euclid tire down Clifton Hill and not hit anything.

Ummm....Clifton Hill has been a fairly major tourist attraction since the 50's and 60's.

What part of isolation do people not understand? There is way too much, "not me".
Self entitled people are the problem.

You are still allowed to leave your house, if those of us who are out riding are what you're referring to.

This is why a "proper lock down" should be implemented. ONLY REALLY ESSENTIAL SERVICES.

Too much of a gray area with the current essential list. (i.e 64. Laundromats, dry cleaners and laundry service providers; )

People are of the mindset that if the neighbor is allowed to go to the dry cleaner to drop of his clothes than they can also go and pick up paint from HD to repaint the bathroom.

HD should only be opened for emergency items. (plumbing in case of flooding at the house, you can paint in the summer)

I'm deemed 'essential', I'm starting to plan my routes to work. Thank China for cheap GPSs.

The problem with assuming that things like laundromats are not essential is that we are all living inside our own personal bubbles.

To most of us here a public laundromat is not "essential".

To someone living in different life situations (boarding rooms, RV's, homeless...whatever) a laundromat is very much not only essential to maintain basic cleanliness, but could be the difference between going there (probably alone, or at worst, while maintaining social distancing) to do their essentials versus having to go to a friends and potentially infect someone, or be infected...which then balloons even more.

There IS logic to many of these places if we look outside our own little bubbles. The same reasons LCBO's are considered essential - much malalignment about that as well initially until people understood the reasoning a little more.

Exactly why a form stating where you coming from and where you going is needed before you leave the house for the essential trip.
Same as countries in Europe.

I really think "they" are allowing too much. We should be in really tight lockdown to shut this virus down.

Kindly explain how my ride today, as clearly described in my post, placed myself or anyone else at risk?

If we reach lockdown, I'll adhere, absolutely, but going outside is perfectly safe all the time every time if people take appropriate precautions.

It's the people going outside and NOT taking any precautions whatsoever who are the problem right now.

Lets not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

If eventually we all get punished because of the careless idiots, so be it. But don't get all uppity about those of us who are still doing what we are allowed to do all whilst going to exceptional lengths to NOT be careless idiots while doing it.

Reality is...in a few days, If I can ditch this stupid cough, I'll be back at work as I'm an essential service.

I'm at a stratospherically FAR higher risk of being infected, and unknowingly SPREADING infection while at work.

Todays choice to go for a ride had effectively zero percent risk.

I do understand the reason why LCBOs are opened. Addiction is hard to deal with, even more so during a withdrawal.

I also understand your explanation of the reason why laundromats are opened.

But I have also never heard of anyone dying of dirty clothes. Sinks and bathtubs have plenty of room to hand wash your undies and socks.

But fine, leave the laundromats opened. But do you really need your dress shirt dry cleaned and pressed. No one will judge you if you show up to a meeting in a wrinkly shirt as we all know what the current situation is around the world.

I wonder how many people will start growing mullets or the opposite, shaving their heads as barbers are not deemed essential?

We all know that you are smart enough to take the appropriate precautions to be safe. Keep your "social distance" from others, bring food and drinks from home and not visit any populated places.

But most other people that do not know you and see you out and about, will think that "if he can go for a ride, I can also go for a jog with my jogging buddies". And its a domino effect from here.

I only say this because I have seen people in my neighborhood not practicing the social distancing etc. Probably cause they don't care or have seen others out and about doing their own thing.

If the actions of a few healthy people showing extreme restraint have a positive effect on a few people that might not be quite as healthy, then the net gain might make a big difference in the total outcome of this pandemic.

Yep. I understand the liquor store 100%. Apparently if they're closed down, people with serious problems will land in the healthcare system which is not an option with this virus. Last week PEI announced they were closing all liquor stores, and that led to massive lineups with people standing directly behind one another, creating the perfect breeding ground for transmission. They reversed their decision immediately after.

Dry cleaning is as essential as a haircut IMO. The joke really is that list means pretty much everything is essential. I mean if you can't really see closures drastically effecting your regular day-to-day pre virus, they're not doing enough.
