A bike doesn't need a lot of current to start. I have a set of 14 gauge wire booster cables tucked under the seat of my 250 Ninja. I made these up after my alarm killed the battery. Some a@@ knocked over the bike in the parking lot and alarm kept going. That time I just push started the bike.
Next time somebody throws out an electrical gizmo with a long cord, cut off the cord. Check if it's 14. If you want to spend money go to HomeDepot and ask for 14ga heater cord. Add some alligator clamps to both ends and you're done. Just don't try to start as soon as you hook up. Let your battery charge up a bit from the boost. This way you won't overload these tiny booster cables.

I brought back an old thread about dead batteries and North America biker rescue instead of starting a new one as both were applicable to the current situation.

Was out in the trails and ran into a guy who took his old, worn-out car out there. Battery or starter died in the middle of nowhere on a gravel road.
Four of us got off our dirtbikes and pushed the car up a hill at considerable effort on our part in the blistering heat, tried to help him bump start the car. Spent almost an hour trying to diagnose the problem to no avail. Nothing.
We told him we'd call for help when we rode out and found signal. He gave us a number for his buddy, said he'd probably bring a truck down to tow him out.
Okay.
So we ride out and find signal further ahead. Give his buddy a call. He seemed surprised when we mentioned who it was that needed a tow. Like, "Who? Oh."
When we rode back the same way a few hours later, the guy was still stranded. We asked whether his buddy came and he said no. Then proceeded to cuss us out for not pushing his car all the way to civilization and also accused us of not calling his friend.
Wow. No gratitude at all for the assistance we gave, but yet angry and also accusatory and entitled. No wonder his "buddy" didn't come get him.

Funny thing was, we all had trucks at home. We were on the way home and at least one of us would have drove back and towed him out, but he just totally convinced us not to go out of our way further to help him.

Reminds me of a time when I returned home from vacation. Arrived at my car at the airport parking at 2:00am to find a dead battery. I had booster cables but could not get anyone to stop to help. Every single car in the parking lot just drove on by as I waved for help while others walking to their vehicle gave me a straight 'sorry, can't help'. Ended up waking up a family member to come help me. Now I always carry a tire patch kit, compressor and battery booster pack because people really suck sometimes.
Yeah...i came across a poor guy with a dead battery at the Tims KC parking lot. I was there on the bike so I just started asking random people walking to their cars if they could help him. To be fair the stranded guy did look kinda shady...but he was actually quite a nice dude. Anywho, the usual "sorry don't have time, etc" one guy in a new Hyundai was like "no thanks it could damage my systems." I just gave him my best withering look and left it. After about 10 minutes I found him a boost, he threw me a $20. Thanks for the tank of gas buddy!
For a while I stopped carrying booster cables in my car. Of course, during that period my in-laws needed a boost so I bought a lithium boost pack for them. That was an expensive rescue but they should be self-sufficient in the future. The cables now live in my car.
Used to always have cables but now I carry a booster/air machine.
Bought the same one for the wife so I can avoid that phone call.
I've heard the system excuse and don't know enough to say one way or another. Some say a failure is an accumulation of events. At the price of modules, I don't want to do the research. If I had to, I would disconnect one battery terminal as that should isolate my car and its modules.
Nasty victim: A winter or two ago a lady asked me if I could open the hood on her minivan so she could add WWAF. When I did, I realized she knew how but didn't want to do it herself because her beater van was throwing oil and my hand came out full of sludge.
Had she told me I would have grabbed a pair of gloves from my trunk. She conveniently had some Tim Hortons napkins ready. Thanks but I also carry hand cleaner. And people wonder why there is a shortage of good Samaritans.
I typically have a booster pack with air compressor in my van. Moto-master one, not the most convenient as its slightly bigger than a windshield washer fluid jug, but it works.
I drove around with it in my van for 3 years at one point. Finally I was stopped by a random lady in a parking lot asking for booster cables.
My eyes lit up and I had a grin on my face from ear to ear. The feeling of YES. FINALLY I CAN USE THIS DAMN THING.
Boosted her and she was on her way.
I also bought a smaller unit recently with just a battery pack. CAA and roadside from leasing company is also helpful.
When driving or riding, especially on the highways and I see another rider stopped on the shoulder, I normally stop or slow down to ask if they are OK. Just a simple thumbs up or down is enough to tell me if I should stop and help or continue going.
I have also called 911 or *OPP many times to report cars in serious trouble on the highways or drivers who look like they need help. Even to report a ladder or other items on live lanes or pedestrians walking on the highways.
Last time I called to report a car fire at 403 and Erin Mills, I couldn't get 911 or *OPP to answer for 15 minutes.

I carry a heavy duty air compressor that's several times as fast as the $9.99 ones but I'm thinking of the power pack as well. Two reasons, I might need it or not looking callous if someone else needs a boost. How often does it have to be topped up if not used?
Can we dispense with the lithium fire issue as some of these are not Tesla approved.
