Coffee

The grounds are incredible fertilizer for house plants and outdoors and rinsed down the drain help keep pipes scrubbed .

I do enjoy good coffee but for now it's a couple cups of Maxwell House or Folgers from a pot. Maybe when I have more time in the mornings we'll invest in something Gucci like many have here.
My SIL has a nice machine where they grind beans for each cup and then transfer it into a little cup, tap tap screw, wait a few minutes and you've got a tasty coffee and a mess to clean. Too much time/effort for me. Coffee was pretty great at the resort we stayed at in Columbia but I don't know anything about how they made it but being fresh was likely the main reason.
My wife has a cup from the same pot as me and then has a semi-Gucci coffee from her Nespresso machine.

This thread did not disappoint. Thank you all for your contributions!

I have a French press and I tried to grind some beans in a magic bullet blender and wasn’t impressed.

I did a quick Amazon purchase of a coffee grinder and going to give it another shot. If not, the dance between Kuerig and a traditional pot of Kirkland medium roast swill will suit me fine until………this thread pops back up and I go down a rabbit hole.

To the post of cold brew, it might be an experiment to try but, I’ve had some cold brew concoctions and never been impressed.

Hot cuppa Joe, and I’m on go!

What do the folks of GTAM recommend for bean choice for regular mornings? Not the special brew meant to impress the neighbours.
Water temperature makes a huge difference with taste in tea, having the different abilities of dissolving the flavour elements. I assume coffee is the same. Green teas taste better when the water is not the rolling boil of pekoe.

My great aunt was British - she never cleaned out her tea pot, the black leaves were put into a collander type device then plunged into the boiling hot water. Dreadful stuff, but she always had great cookies.

More forum specific. Racer and his Sub.

This is true. Bean roast level and processing method (washed, natural, honey, etc.) both come into play. With super light, washed process coffees, you can really push the temperature, while doing the same with a darker roast or natural process coffee will extract more bitter flavours.

Bookmarked for the future. I’m not ready for advanced information related to coffee. For me, it’s just not registering at the moment. Water temps and the like.

I’m still at caveman, road side camping, keep it simple stupid. But, I have to say my coffee game has improved since I originally posted.

I draw the line at what I call church coffee, the cheapest stuff and it tastes like popcorn.

Rockets are pretty. They use more counter space than I want to give up though.

In my head is the rough design for an espresso machine. Footprint similar to a Silvia (smaller if I can do it), 120V, 15A. Single 1L boiler with a preheater for water headed to the boiler. That should have water entering the boiler at ~95C so boiler temp should be barely affected. PID, rotary pump and probably (but not guaranteed) an E61 group head. It will cost me more than a Silvia but less than a Rocket to make.

I see they're in Mississauga ... Tried the beans over at The Mister Brewer in Brampton? Curious how they compare if you have.
