Clean title with unclean frame

Can someone please tell me what the benefit of selling a clean title would be WITHOUT the accompanying clean frame? I've seen a few ads recently on kijiji where people are selling 'clean titles' and the frames are cracked or damaged in some way. What am I missing here? What good is the clean title if you don't have an undamaged frame to go along with it?

If someone was storing an uninsured bike and it was destroyed when the garage collapsed on it the title wouldn't be affected unlike a bike in a street crash where there would be police and insurance reports. The guy with the crashed street bike or a stolen one buys the clean title and assembles a bike with "No damage history". Want to be part of the scam?

The clean title is to put a stolen or written off bike back on the road.

There was a guy at the Barrie auto flea market last summer selling clean titles for old cars. He had several 3-ring binders full of old ownerships. Doesn't seem legit to me, but I don't work for the MTO.

If you wanted to buy a bike with a damaged frame that's been written off you could replace the frame and use the clean title to get the bike back on the road.

You could also use the clean title(if it came with an actual physical frame) to buy a replacement frame from the dealer. However, this is highly unlikely to happen.

Explain how this is possible because what I *think* you're saying is that hypothetically, I could take an old, damaged gsxr frame for example (for which I have the title) and somehow obtain a new one to rebuild with?

You call your local suzuki dealer and see if you can order a frame. I ordered a frame for my 04 ZX10 from Kawasaki when it cracked.

If you have a clean title frame you can order a replacement from a dealer. They will stamp your VIN on the new frame and destroy the old one.

and if you're handy, you can rebuild the motorcycle off the new frame with your old parts.

still sounds dodgy to me though (buying and selling clean "titles")

Stamp the clean title VIN onto a blank frame, or a good frame with a written off title... Pretty straight forward??? What are you confused about?

Or stamp clean VIN on a stolen frame, with attached all the parts that make up a stolen motorcycle...
I am not an expert but self re-stamping VIN numbers does not seem legal...

It is illegal, but then if someone has a bike that they KNOW is stolen and they are going to this level of trouble do you think they are concerned with the legalities??? LOL

I may or may not have had a reputable shop stamp my vin into a blank frame. The title was in my name and the old damaged frame still in my possession.

But man my memory is hazy.... hmmmmm

+1 best answer from the legal standpoint!

A perfect example, 2004 Ninja with 2005 VIN: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-sport-bikes/hamilton/2005-kawasaki-ninja/582156948

I'm just saying it is hard to find legitimate reason to buy just title and most likely it would be used to legitimize stolen bike. I'm not saying it is going stop criminals....

Why does it have to be stolen? Many people do the same with "salvage" title bikes that were written off here or bought in the US and shipped over......The last crashed bike I dealt with from this site was written off even thou the bike was totally fixable, with no damage to frame.I suggested to that person that they buy a clean title and put it back on the road, instead of taking a huge loss. Because insurance branded the bike salvage he was under the impression the bike was toast and never rid able again. He only need a few hundred dollars in parts and it was fine mechanically, just didnt have any plastics on it...
