Long story short someone rode a bike into my face
They cut my head open from ear to ear, peeled my face down and did surgery then stapeled it shut with 58 staples
facial reconstruction, 60 pieces of titanium in my face and eye sockets, bunch of stitches on my eye and forehead
they took some muscle from my left leg to use in my face
I had metal braces stitches to my jaws for a month to fix my bite
I have a cleft in my eye, had a cleft closer operation where they cut it open and tried to stitch it shut
I had more laser surgery on it yesterday
And I lost my sense of smell due to the damage to my face killing the nerves that create smell

Wow! And was this racing? I hope you are Ok.

I guess I should not complain too much about Scarborough drivers trying to kill me, intentially or not, cell phone toting or not.

I was riding lead on a trip to the Adirondacks last June. We got to the lodge in Piseco at 8:30pm where it was decided we should head out for supper. The Inn keeper told us the area pretty much shuts down at 6:30 so places with kitchens open would be few and far between. We made it to Speculator, just down the road at 9:30pm and one of the guys convinced a local establishement to keep the kitchen open for us. We had some great burgers then headed back to Piseco around 11pm. By this time, it was darker than Toby's ... My Ducati didn't have enough light for me to lead so I had someone else lead us out. Somehow, I ended up in front by the time we got to Piseco and, as we passed the small airport, a local bear decided to try and "car jack" my bike; I ran into it at around 60km/h. All I remember is seeing the head come across the front of the bike before getting launched into its arse head first.

The 4 or 5 guys behind me managed to avoid running me over, but for a moment there, I thought I was done. I tried to stand up, couldn't, so I crawled off the road on my hands and knees. The cobwebs cleared after a few minutes and, as we were discussing what to do, one of the guys said that we shouldn't discuss it near an injured bear. So, I got on my bike and rode away. Back at the lodge, I had some really dizzy spells and I was sore all over but didn't think it warranted going to the hospital. And besides, where do you find one in the Adirondacks?

I wake up the next morning and one of the guys says "holy shat, look at your head, it's all deformed!". I was sore all over and, ended up having a fairly serious concussion and a broken wrist. My poor bike was declared a write off. Had 3 pins inserted in my wrist in December as a cast didn't heal it up. Still, I had a fantastic weekend despite spending a day in the hospital and we're are heading back again this June.

I was chuckling at a mental picture of a guy's head stuck in a bear's *** but then your story got sad in the end.

Lol, that would have been good. No sadness in this story, it all worked out really well. The only problem was my wife had to come and get me and Piseco wasn't on the GPS. The insurance company paid me to go get the bike a couple weeks later as it would have been too costly to send a tow truck.

The people of Piseco really helped me out though, even sending a car to get me at the hospital an hour away. It's a special place. The "rest of the story" is here: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=826154

Crashed on Saturday's qualifying race, I have a bobo on my knee and some banged up ribs - nothing to show for, I am just not cool enough for scars

I had been considering it for awhile, I knew that I wanted a GS but I was trying to find a way to swing buying a third bike. I enjoyed 'Bella' but I'm not much of a sport bike rider; I used the Duc more like a touring bike and wanted to add some different roads to my rides. I feel ashamed to say it but I don't miss the Duc too much at all.

Worst by far was planting leg down hard on dirt lowside. Tore ACL. At practice track by myself. Loading bike on truck was an event, let me tell you.

Don't get me wrong, whenever I see pics of a 900 I get weak in the knees. There was almost 60 000kms on that bike when it met its end, 32 000 of it was me and I can say that enjoyed every metre of it. No bike, including the GS, put a smile on my face like the 900 (although the GS is close, but for different reasons).

That's right...we're not in some kinda war fighting for freeeedom!!!!! that these scars are some sorta honour symbols you keep with pride and brag about ...if you go down over and over then riding isn't for you man...stick to the cage or walking.

And yep I've gone down have scars and stitches on my chin but nothing to brag about nor do I feel proud about it as if I sustained injuries for my country.

Not slamming OP I see where he is coming from, but just agree with the response from "unL33T" above.

For me its full leathers on joyrides, kevlar/Draggin jeans with CE knee pads and all other gear to school and work.
