Chances of being pulled over at the Forks?

um, just to clarify about the incident: The last time we went through the Forks, we went as a group of 4, all slip-on or stock exhausts (the loudest slip on was a 2brothers). We were all timid noobs, doing less than 40km/h.

In front of one of the houses, a couple men in their 40-50s threw manure/soil/mud just metres in front of our path. Thankfully we evaded it by swerving onto the opposite lane. As we passed them they were smirking, along with some females who were watching by their porch.

We pulled up to a coffee shop and talked to another rider who was 2uping with his wife on a dual sport and they had to deal with something similar.

They never threw anything AT us though. Wish I had a gopro at the time.

The forks seem like a ****** road to speed on anyway (speed bumps, hairpin turns, etc). If I go there, it's just for scenery.
 
Now that the season is pretty much over ...

I live 15 min away from the Forks and I'm up there regularly. It's a nice little after-work wind-down to scoot up there and do a little loop then hang out at the coffee shop for a while. I can say with certainty that the coffee shop is a gold mine and a lot of that is because of riders hanging out there.

But as for enforcement ... I've only seen cops up there a couple of times this whole summer. I've seen zero evidence of enforcement of Caledon's noise by-law. Most reasonable aftermarket exhaust systems will pass the test anyway. If your bike has no muffler than it probably won't pass. If your bike has no muffler then I don't want you anywhere near me, and I'm a rider.

I try not to do things that would cause increased enforcement attention. Haven't had any issues with residents nor any with cops.

The speed bumps were likely an attempt to be a substitute for police presence. If that's the case, I'll take that trade-off.

FWIW in the village of Alton, which was the previous location for those temporary (bolted down) speed bumps ... they have just now installed permanent speed bumps. I betcha the snowplow driver is going to love those. But the permanent speed bumps are so gentle - much gentler than the bolt-down ones - that you can ride over them at 50 km/h without slowing down without a problem.

Carry a digital camera with you.

If something of this sort happens in the future, stop immediately, get out your camera, take a picture of the people, and take a picture of the debris on the road. Make SURE the people know that you are taking a picture of them, and of the debris.

They will probably not do it again even if you DON'T report it to the cops ... but I'd report it to the cops anyway, and give them the pictures and a statement of what you saw and what happened.
 
I'm sure, throwing manure in front of a motorcycle is not legal either.
 
I crashed and wrote off my new Zx6r back in 98 there. Young rider..going to fast etc.
I had a police report done and the officer I dealt with told me over the years there had been 10-12 deaths from speed. Some cars, some bikes. One accident several kids died going over the holy-rollers...a head on at night. Because of all this + the many many accidents there the residents have been requesting police. Have to remember, as some earlier mentioned, these aren't just working class residents there. I'm positive some have ties with politics and can have influence.
I now take it easy thru there. My R1 is pretty loud, so I try not to piss anyone off.

It's tough balance for us riders. Want to have fun but don't want trouble.

I've gone down Forks of the Credit twice on my new-to-me VFR with a two bros slip-on. I was going the speed limit and keeping the revs down.

Both times there were 3 cruisers parked all along the road.

No issue at all - with the locals or the cops.

The crash he was referring to happened on Mother's Day in 1993 and resulted in the death of 8 kids in their late teens. This crash was completely avoidable and would not have happened had the driver of the car loaded with the teens not tried to pass a slower vehicle on one of the blind hills. I believe that alcohol was also a factor.

In reply to the original post, I would advise that I have ridden "the Forks" quite literally hundreds of times and have never been stopped by the police, or even seen a spot-check on that road. Now most of my riding has been on weekday afternoons because I used to use this road as part of my commute on the way home. More recently I have been riding through there on weekdays during the day, so there are not many residents at home and very little police presence. That is not to say I have not seen OPP cruisers on the road; they do have a few spots where they tend to sit, so take a run through first just to see if they are around.

Better yet, ride a little farther north and try Hockley Valley Road, Mono Road, or River Road north of Mansfield. While these roads also are patrolled by OPP, they are less congested, have higher speed limits and the locals have not had speed humps installed.
 
just go there, dont be afraid.. dont do anything stupid, and IF you get pulled over, just be polite.. they know 90% have aftermarket exhausts, so i dont see a problem
they will most likely pull you over for a random paperwork check, thats it

i laugh sometimes, id be riding through forks in the middle of summer, with tons of other bikers there, and a bunch of honda rice boys... then down the road ill see a regular corolla pulled over by the opp... like really? couldnt find someone more eligible for a stop?
aka what i mean, follow the rules, no need to gun it through there, just enjoy :)
