Career change

Well another disappointing waste of my time.
Applied for position on companies website.
Couple weeks later get a call to schedule a phone interview
10 minutes before interview, get a text the need to reschedule for later in the day. Ok.
10 minutes before rescheduled interview another text, need to reschedule for next week asked me to pick date time. I reply with date and time.
No reply text to confirm
On the date time I was asked to schedule. Nothing...
I text, I email, I call. No reply...
Sad part is I was very interested in this company and the position. Thanks to their idiot HR guy its now a lost opportunity for both the company and myself. Ugh..
If you're interested in the company and role, check LinkedIn for any hiring manager (instead of HR) and tell them you're interested but getting the run around.

Got nothing to lose anyway.

Maybe. Not a good start for corporate culture and responsibility though. Maybe the one person he dealt with is the only turd but in good companies, turds should be driven out quickly.
Should be…doesn’t always work that way.

If they don't drive out the turds, imo, they have some work to do to be a good company (and it's work they are not doing so that's not a good sign). There is a chance they didn't know or are working on it so checking in with someone else in the company is worth a shot. As part of an interview, I would try to ascertain what happened with the first contact person. The answers to those questions are important.

Well, I really would not recommend this. Suppose you get an interview, the hiring manager wants you, you get hired, and then ongoing you are governed by HR policies and, to some extent, the people who work in HR.

You're the guy who ratted out their lousy processes and perhaps made them look bad to other management. Don't delude yourself that they are going to forget this. In my career I've met dozens and dozens of HR people from clerical to VP level and I know what I'm talking about.

The hiring process is like a honeymoon period. It never gets better. If they treat you like dirt now, image how it will be once you've signed on. Who needs this hassle. There are 1000's of companies in the GTA, move on to a better one.

Well got a phone call this afternoon, very apologetic with a believable excuse.
I provided my feedback on ghosting people, they took the criticism very well.
Interview went very well,.
110k + commission and yearly bonus
Company truck with gas card
Cell phone & laptop
3 weeks vacation with 11 addition days provided by company over the holidays.
Rrsp matching
Standard benefits
Close territory with large and established customer base.
All sales targets in writing and reasonable.

2nd interview tomorrow with big boss.

I normally would have told them to beat it but this position lines up with my decades of experience and it was recognized and appreciated. I also asked around and no one has a bad thing to say about this company, so I'll leave it already alone.

I'm glad I did not resort to an unprofessional approach.

Paging @Wind Shear for HR stuff
I fear after 15 years (a career change myself) i’m too jaded and cynical. You tend to see the very worst of both sides, management and employee.

Every job has its cons, that’s why it’s called “work”. If it wasn’t they wouldn’t you to do it.

@Jampy00 if the opportunity makes you excited and happy then that’s all that matters. Try not to let the cynics get to you.

Saying that, a union brings a whole other level to the equation

I try not to over analyze things (But often I do) when negative things happen to me.
In this case I don't think it was a employer or HR issue but more bad time management with a "I'll get back to them later" mindset.

My current position is in a highly saturated and competitive market.
There are some juggernauts that have much deeper pockets to ride out the current situation. But mostly after 20+ years in the same industry I'm tired and have become worn out.

So I'm looking forward to a change but fully aware all change comes with risk.

We'll see how this 2nd interview goes 😀

Oh man speaking of career change…just saw a role in my field that’s about 50-75k more than I’m making now.

Probably way higher stress. Way lower work life balance. But damn if it wasn’t tempting to apply..

It sounds like you handled the situation well, neither being a bully nor too fragile.

I try to remain calm and professional, most times things work out.

2nd interview was onsite with three department heads.
Answered all the questions well, I hope.
They stated they want to complete the decision making 1 week of August.
We'll see what happens
