Cardo GoBeyond : Cardo’s high tech sport touring helmet

I didn’t even know CARDO made helmets.

First one, I believe.

I'm not too confident about comms manufacturers branching out and making safety gear. It may be a good helmet, but since this is a first effort, would rather early adopters and reviewers test it out before I do.

Sena also makes motorcycle helmets:

I don't think I've ever seen anyone wear one.

Personally, I prefer the ability to use and upgrade comms tech into the helmet of my choice, not have it integrated. A couple of years ago, I made the switch from Sena to Cardo. I have several helmets, and all I had to do was change out the speaker/mic and mounting bracket on each. A Sena or Cardo-specific helmet would want to lock you into their eco-system so the comms integration would be more difficult to rip out and replace.

Also, when the new version of the comms technology comes out, you may be forced into upgrading the helmet if it's more than just a firmware update (like new form-factor with new buttons or dials).

I'd prefer the option to separate out the comms from the helmet. Just my own personal preference. I know a few people who like the sleek, integrated look.

Totally agree. My AGV with Insyde cardo in it is now under a shady recall. The comm unit is useless now.

Ugh.

In addition to the ease of ripping out and replacing a crappy or defective comms unit, if you have multiple helmets, it's also trivial to move an aftermarket comms unit from lid to lid.

@Lightcycle good point. I have only 2 helmets but a single CARDO unit that I flip between them as I feel like riding in each helmet.

Super convenient and if CARDO bricks itself…at least my helmets are still good to use.

Something dedicated helmet manufacturers are able to do is offer different colours and shell sizes, due to economies of scale.

Sena doesn't sell a lot of helmets, so they are limited to just black and white colours and only 3 shell sizes. Not sure if Cardo will be in the same boat.

I just sized down my helmet from M to S for my Arai XD5. It has specific shell sizes for XS and S each. It's so nice having a helmet that doesn't look oversized on my noggin. Manufacturers with less shell sizes will just stuff thicker cheek pads in the same size shell for smaller-headed customers so they end up looking like bobble-heads.

Sometimes it's better to buy a helmet from a dedicated helmet manufacturer and then buy a comms unit from a company that specializes in comms.

Again, MHO.
