Buying and Registering it without a Safety Cert.

Not really. It doesn't transfer the vehicle to unfit with a temp sticker. It will transfer to temp without the safety.

It used to stay in the other persons and you got a piece of paper that was the temp permit name until transferred fit or unfit but that has changed. Now you have to get a plate with a temp sticker, it transfers into your name as temp.

Hmm I guess that explains what I did. I thought my bike was considered registered to me after I got the papers, (temp).

Just for reference my process was this (fully complete):
1. Buy bike, Bill of sale, and registration portions signed.
2. Get insurance
3. Take the papers to MTO, get the temp papers with plate and sticker. Pay taxes, and for temp permit and plates.
4. Ride it to get it saftied
5. Turn in safety, pay for normal plate sticker
6. Ride home.

Hey guys I just bought a 08 cbr125 and they original owner had a safety done June 20 and i heard safteys are only usable for 36 days? You think the ppl at service Ontario will let me use it since its only been a couple days over or should I just get another safety done by rosey toes?

I've a similar question. The seller I'm currently talking with is saying that the bike passed safety test 3 months ago and currently is under the fit status. Does this mean that I don't have to get it saftied again when he transfers the ownership to me once I buy it? Also would I need a uvip for a vintage bike? I'm currently looking at a 1984 Honda. Thanks!

Yes, you need a new safety, and any used vehicle needs the UVIP. The UVIP is there for the buyers protection. If you buy a bike with money owing on it, you take on that debt. It also gives you the ownership history and true mileage. Don't ever buy a bike without looking at the UVIP, because people lie. It will also tell you if it was ever written off. Be wary of many short ownerships, thats typical of lemons.
