Dammit! Megaupload was the best and the fasted filestorage server. I used it very often:( now what...

And the worst story is that "officials" getting far behind the limits of their business.
Pll who are sharing files or books, or whatever are not pirates - they do not get any monetary profit, so they do not still anyones one. If someone does not want to have his idea/books/videos/music/whatever to be shared - he has not to post it - say not to publish it. One's someone has published something, that thing (idea/melody/story/whatever) starts belonging to everybody, who saw it once. All other discussions are equal to something like if you would, for example, buy the potatoes, bake them and treat it to someone, and the farmer would say, that you are the pirate - stilling his potatoes...

The charges, that they hit the site's principals with, are serious. Several carry a maximum term of 20 years.
 
That's what happens when politicians get golfed into maintaining an industry's bottom line no matter what. Most of the use of Megaupload was legitimate and while some people used it for piracy, you shouldn't hold a file-hosting service responsible. Then they went after Cogent - the transit provider. Seriously?! What's next? ISP's? Dell, HP an Toshiba? What about Best Buy where many pirates buy their laptops? Also, most of those people were within the limits of the law in their countries, but their countries suck American cock so they arrested their law-abiding citizens and had them extradited to a foreign country to be jailed for their lawful activities. All of that on the tax dollar.

What they don't realise is the internet is a media for freedom of speech and expression. But it bad or good. When they shut down one guy there will be another guy popping up somewhere. Just like Napster, just because Napster is gone it doesn't mean filesharing is dead.

The motion picture companies still generate profits because people still go to the theaters. I don't know why they are so angry. Personally I don't even watch movies anymore, be it a download or going to the theaters, simply cuz the movies these days sucks.

Most of the programs I really need on my PC is open source. I think someone just get greedy and wants to make a buck

the way they calculate it is skewed too. would you pay to watch all of the content you download if it was not available for download?
 
I have a hard time feeling sympathetic for "them" when movies like Twilight make $10-bajillion dollars in theaters.

Maybe not, but you DID watch it.

Their calculations are generally based on things like how many people you also shared it with, which also impacts revenues.

+1 Most of the crap my theoretical friend downloads and watches would never have been paid for. Some things turn out to be better than expected and may catch some money when a sequel comes out (or buy the disc to lend out to friends).

If they have the right to charge me the same price for crap as a good movie, I should have the right to ask for most of my money back at the end of a POS movie that should never have been released. I understand movies cost money to make, but probably 50% of movies I see in theatres make me feel as though I have completely wasted my money (and as I paid to see it, the studios pay to make more crap movies as they see they can make money). It is hard to get negative reinforcement in the current loop.

If a person watches a downloaded movie and then decides it was worth money, they should buy a copy to send positive reinforcement to the companies so more will be made. If it's crap, the production companies don't get money and try something different next time.

Then tell people that the movie is crap and they won't go, causing the production company to make less money.

The same ppl who they're trying to "get" are they same ppl who are their customers. They treat the ppl who support them as criminals. I guess they need more money to support their drug habbits

As for music, they make tons of money from merchandise and shows/venues. Most of the time, these shows would not even be sucessful if they were not spread on the internet. People would not go to these shows if they didn't know how good the album was or how good their music was on a whole.

You know what? They've come to the realization that people will continue to go to the theaters even though they make crap. Crap crap crap everywhere and you still see ppl going to theaters. Because they've realized that ppl go to theaters as a pass-time, for the environment and not just for the movie. Thats why crap like Twilight can make gazillions.

Their writers are literally on break. I've resort to watching movies from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Some stories and ideas can never get old.

edit: on yeh, another thing that pisses me off is they keep making sequels. Do I really want to see another Twilight or Ironman?? sheesh .
