Auto Dealerships

One Taco problem is they can only program one tire sensor code , change to snows on rims ( Toyota rims and sensors) and you need to give Toyota thirty bucks to reprogram or stare at the warning light all winter .
Same with remote start. In the twenty twenty three it’s a subscription. Want to start your truck with the remote that’s already in the truck? Twelve bucks a month please. I hate this friggin half a truck , TRDPro my arse .

I've heard that. Aren't they mostly electronic related?

Biggest issue confirmed by Toyota themselves is with the 8-speed transmission, problems from delayed shifting to outright failures. Check engine lights, front differential, various noises coming from the chassis/doors, etc.

I chalk it up to first MY teething problems. If I recall, the first year 3Gens also had some reliability problems which caused Toyota to slip from the JD Powers list. Previous gen Tacomas have always had a 6-speed auto which, although clunky and prone to hunting, was time-tested and reliable. For them to have issues with a brand new 8-speed... not good, but not entirely surprising.

They've also got really, REALLY expensive.

I think that's the rub for a lot of owners. They paid through the teeth with expectations of legendary Toyota quality and were rewarded with TSBs and multiple warranty claims.

AFAIK most of the issues have been addressed with the 2025s and onwards.

6+ years in, my 3Gen is going strong, I don't see myself trading it in for a 4Gen. Love mid-sized trucks. Maybe a 5Gen in another 6+ years? 12 years seems to be my average for keeping cars and trucks.
