Attn. FJR owners... (and some other models)

I called the local dealer, they had my Vin on file from a previous possible warranty issue, they said mine was clear... They seemed quite sure that the Yamaha sight would have been updated for this recall already... Time will tell I guess.

"Corrective Actions:
Yamaha will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to replace the transmission assembly with one that has an updated design and reprogram the electronic control unit (ECU)."

Are they neutering output in 2nd gear or something?

Well... the gear failure is a mechanical issue... Maybe the redesigned tranny runs a bit differently requiring a ecu update..?

Just checked my Vin. Says no recalls but I don't believe it. There are 2 recalls for the FJR right now. Front brake light switch is the other. Same switch is used on a few Yamaha's.

No way my FJR has neither recall. Will have to wait for a notice from the dealer.

I guess we FJR owners can no longer slam BMW's for faulty parts.

Im safe, I have a 5speed.

The 6th gear addition in 2016 is the culprit.
This.

When they upgraded to the six speed they essentially decreased the width of all gears to make space for one more.

My guess is they either changed the heat treat parameters (i.e. decrease hardening depth for more durability as long as sufficient depth for surface hardness remains) and/or redesigned some or all of the gears to specifically address this particular failure mode (i.e. fillets, shot peening, etc.) and retuned the quick shifter engine parameters.

I guess I haven't been paying close attention - the FJR1300 has a quickshifter now?! Why?!

For racing? In all honesty, the electronic gizmos are cheap to add. They have already done the development for other bikes and need many of the sensors anyway so the incremental cost is a few sensors.

Good day Gary,

I hope you enjoyed your summer with your new bike.

Unfortunately Yamaha has issued a major recall on your bike and you will probably be receiving a copy of this in the mail shortly.

If you would like us to complete this recall please bring it back to us during the winter so you won’t be at a loss without your bike during the good riding weather.

This will most likely take about two days to complete so you will have to leave it with us and we would call you when it was done.

Do they have a better list of VIN's than the website you used? Or has the website been updated? Or are they just emailing all FJR owners?

That's all I got, plus a generic pdf from the mothership outlining the recalls. No vins.
Transmission fix is 14hrs.
Brake light switch is 54 minutes.

Well... 'Looks like I'm getting a new tranny..
