Who'd have thunkit. I was always told by my employer that you needed to jump through hoops to get the vests (they cost us over $1400 through the company for Level II w/stab plate) and needed the company logo and license# visible at all times.

I got pulled over today wearing it, no company logo or security license # visible on it and the cop who was an older guy and also a supervisor didn't bat an eye. He asked why I was wearing it, I told him I was omw to work and nothing else was said of it. When I asked after he ran my D/L he said it's completely legal for civilians to own and wear as long as it isn't military grade stuff like plate carriers.

That being said places like R Nichols are pretty snooty and probably won't sell to a civilian, but they're available all over the place online now that I'm looking. Called a couple US distributors and they said they'll ship to Ontario no problem

Agreed. I believe up to level 4 you're GTG, in ONTARIO....some provinces have put limitations on body armour.

You can buy older police issue second hand and also brand new stuff made, but it aint cheap.

Personal ownership is not permitted in NS and MB. The provinces of BC and AB permit personal ownership with PAL. We don't have any laws against it here. Some companies ask for PAL and some ask for you to be MIL/LE only because their supplier has those standards.

There are two Canadian manufactures that sell it directly.

APM NIJ3A + Stab 1 Rigid Hybrid Plate is available here for security work with no requirements. It's ~ $120 for a 10x12 square or clipped corner plate.

I have a few sets of varying levels up to lvl 4 ceramic stand alone.

I stay out the city. No need for that when you have old macdonald as a neighbor. On a side note, you're having a ****** week eh? Hope you're healing up at least

From what I've read/recall (Take with a grain of salt). It's legal to own and wear but once a crime is committed you also get hit with the fact your wearing tagged on to the severity of the charge. Even for minor offenses!

I've definitely had better. Had worse though and I'm back on the bike today after work(with my tegaderm still on!).

This was proposed as an amendment to the CCC by the House but it never got passed the Reading phase.

How do they work as a ****** vest?

Probably just as well, kevlar is good for abrasion apparently

iirc you can also own a rpg? or grenade launcher. I think that Toysareforboys guy had some.
It seems odd the hoops to jump for body armour but less for an rpg.

Because it's an empty metal tube. A wall hanger basically.

The ammunition for it is prohibited.

There are no hoops to jump through for body armour. You can buy it online as already stated.

Well there ARE hoops you need to jump thru for certain levels of armour the people at the controlled goods directorate Regulate military grade items such as armour and grenade launchers along with many other items

well whatever the **** hoops you have to jump through, I wouldn't settle for the level 2 9mm stuff...even the cops got .40 S&W

No, there aren't.

You can buy them online legally. The ammunition for grenade launchers is regulated. You can buy the launcher and put 37mm flares in it if you want.

Body armour regulations,if any, are from the manufacturer. Some limit who can buy their product and some don't. Ontario has NO LAWS against ownership.

Feel free to link these claimed Hoops though....

I bought lvl 4 SA ceramic hybrid multi hit plate without jumping through anything. That's more effective than the MILSPEC issued plates.

EDIT:

here is a simplified NIJ standard chart to show the levels of armour.

The ratings are the minimum and in many cases these types will exceed these standards depending on the type you buy. This is lab results at close range so the further you are from the shooter the more effective the armour is especially when it comes to hand gun rounds. There is nothing beyond lvl 4 since at that point the weapon used will maw through anything IE: anti material rounds like 50BMG.

So, lvl2 will stop 9mm and police .40SW since they are basically the same performance. Magnum rounds like .44 .454 .460 and .500 are in another group above 9mm - .45ACP
