Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

I finally got a ride in my first EV. Buddy has a lightning. In a perfect world, 500km range. More typically just over 400 km. If pulling a trailer, 200 km (ouch). He mostly likes it. Gas savings are roughly equal to truck payment (it replaced an ICE F150). He is hopeful that the new hybrid lightning is competent with a trailer.
Oh man! That would be an awesome replacement for the Maverick if I could justify flipping cars again.

Although wife’s odyssey is getting up in kms…..🧐

I think wingboy is learning from macdoc and not quoting. I suspect he is talking about the bike.

My buddy bought the lightning new and it was just over the six figure line.

Article was taken from ADVRider.I assume the number was usd. Convert to cdn+taxes+pdi, freight.
The only thing i have ever learned from the ex cdn,is that he likes red.

Where would you like to buy a Verge? :sneaky:
Would be the lithium version but that also gets 200 km range and charges quickly.

While SSB's may get there, I will be shocked if it's in your driving/riding lifetime.
My dad was driving legally until he was 95 and my mom made 97 some loony.
I'd not be surprised to see an SSB in Australia in 2027 as BYD is well established

Otd price of the Verge is probably about $45,000cdn. Lol
Just for kicks I went onto AutoTrader...the cheapest F150L is $38k with 145k on the clock:

Brand new F150L base price is 63k...let's even assume that can be discounted 10k...that's 53k +++++++

Unfortunately way too expensive for me to even consider it at this stage.

In all honesty even with all the Elon BS...if it came down to replace the Maverick on an emergency basis I'd even consider a Model 3 LR. Buddy of mine bought one (after a minor accident) for 21k with 90k on the clock...he absolutely loves it (and hates Elon at the same time).

Quebec market is typically cheaper. If you’re willing to do the tax/paperwork/rebuilt title dance I would always start there.

Yup. A lot of the cars coming to the ON market are by dealers bringing in stock from QC.

Most of the people I know that bought used EVs were bought here in Ontario, brought in from QC.

Only person I know that bought physically in QC is @PrivatePilot and I know he's done well on that purchase.

How's that new IONIQ5 treating you @PrivatePilot been a while since you bought it.

He hasn’t logged in since July. Not sure you’ll get a response.

will run around $26,000 but hohum range.

Kawi's Ninja 7 Hybrid is intriguing tech

for much less money but very limited range as an EV
Kawasaki's hybrid motorcycles, like the Ninja 7 HEV, offer impressive range, with real-world tests achieving around 270 miles (435 km) on a 14L tank by leveraging both petrol and electric power, delivering fuel economy comparable to a 250cc bike with the performance of a larger machine. Full EV mode offers a shorter, limited range (e.g., 7-20 miles at low speeds), but the engine can recharge the battery, providing flexibility and mitigating range anxiety.

One glance and you can tell it’s a street fighter.

Range is predictably laughable but at least the recharge time seems viable..pending on the details.

A friend's son bought a car out of Quebec, wrecked it and did well with the insurance settlement.

B - in -law leased a Tesla 3 for two years ( we might buy it out at the end but we really don't need it we drive so little).
With SSB on the near horizon a ton of depreciation looming especially if BYD et al gets a foot hold in North America. :coffee:
Lot of their attractive pick ups on the road here.
Four door and a nice muscular look. $56k Aus that is likely all in.

Does anyone think that SSB means the end of hybrids?

I would love for BYD to come to North America. They’re all over Europe and they’re very well regarded.

If there was affordable minivan options I’d consider that for the wife and kids.

Too bad only Sienna makes a hybrid minivan, and it’s stupidly expensive.

I'd hold off on hybrids until SSBs see some traction....might be a failed category.
I'm all onboard the hybrid train moving forward if I can.

Only reason my Mav isn't the hybrid is because they didn't offer the AWD/4K tow with the hybrids until 2025...at which point in time the truck cost 50k or so.

Can SSBs go from 100% to 0% charge without affecting battery life?

That changes the range reality. If they discourage using the top and bottom 20% of the maximum range they advertise, it drops from 500 KM to 300.

My gas tank doesn't fail sooner if I top it to the brim or run it dry.

How would BYD acceptance in Canada affect Tesla? I can see Trump putting a visitor's tariff on it if you crossed the border. Musk wouldn't be happy.

Highly doubt anyone bothers with our market alone. We aren’t a big enough customer base.

Most existing BEV's have part of the battery pack locked out already (user only gets something like 15-90% of actual pack capacity). Level 3 charging does more damage than full charge/discharge. While it is ideal to stay within the 15-85% range, I would have no issue going 100% to 0 whenever the trip required it. For the vast majority of vehicles the vast majority of the time, they are only using <<30% of the battery daily so there is no upside to pushing them to 100% full every night.

Canada has 100% tariff on BYD. Tesla is safe.

EDIT:
With a hurricane headed for Florida, Tesla issued a time-limited update that extended range by 40 miles. That is the part of the battery that is normally locked out to protect it. I think that was a good thing as the damage from running all the way down is far less than the damage caused by a swim in salt water.
