I'd be tempted to reconfigure your circuits to supply one 32A 240V EVSE and charge the Volt from a wall plug. You can always stick the Volt on the big charger for a short splash.

My Grizzl-E is set up at 24A 240VAC and it's always capable of fully charging my car overnight. Your battery is bigger, though.

Yeah, that would make sense. Only limitation is when we both want / need to charge as fast as possible and I’m stuck at 12a@120. But meh, I have gas if need be. We might go this way or we may just keep on with what we’ve got since it seems to be working most or the time thus far.

Where's that meme about JT raining cash and then the onlookers realize he has their wallet. Similar situation here, similar level of obviousness. Once wallet is empty a few will clue in but most will believe in the cult and blame the other side.
 
Came here to see if there were any new interesting SUVs that I should look into, but ironically got stopped by five or more pages of mostly politics and market analysis. What cars should I be looking at?

Ev? How big do you want? Kia has a couple, rav4 prime (piev) is good but expensive and a wait, Mach e is fine but I expect brutal depreciation as they need to cut price to move stock.

Most likely a five passenger. We have a gas Odyssey now, but have gone from one to three cars in the driveway. I’d like something that will last twenty years and my wife insists on an SUV. Don’t have enough power for a full electric without a panel upgrade, and they don’t have enough range yet. Most of our driving would be close by with a once or twice a month trip to Toronto/Welland. I’m not sure if that would put us into a plugin or standard hybrid. Might need some old guy car feel, as well. What started me on this train, was a the suggestion of a Lexus E300 I think. Latest was maybe a CRV. Not really interested in most super luxury brands, and I’ve heard some long term issues with some others. Just looking to start the process.

For longevity, rav4 prime is probably high on the list. If you don't want any plugin capability, rav4 hybrid is cheaper. No range anxiety on either.

Only 100a service?

Unless you have a major amp device like a hot tub, or have electric heat/baseboards, even a 100a service can typically still make it work with a 40a plug for a 32a level 2 charger. If need be it can be de-rated a little as well to stay within code.

A friend in BC couldn’t get a full 40a out of his panel for his new EV because the entire house is all electric heat / minisplits with a electric dryer and hot water tank on top of things, but they put in a 30a circuit instead with the EVSE hardware de-rated to 26a or something like that. Still enough in the end to fully recharge his car overnight from flat dead, but within his panel limits.

Pool? Electric dryer & oven. I’m going to have to do an inventory, because there’s a main panel that’s rated 125 amp, and a secondary beside it rated 100 amps for the kitchen addition, plus a separate stove sub panel upstairs. MP has Kevin, I have Paul. I think there are a total of 46 breakers in use in the three boxes, which are full up. That seems like a lot for what we are running.
 
So you must have at least 250-300a (?) service coming in if you have 2 panels totaling 225a on their main breakers.

I’d be pretty confident you’d have the overhead for a full fledged 40A charger circuit without any issues. Heck, you might even be able to support one or the big 60A tesla units, although I’m guessing a Tesla isn’t on your list, but just saying.

I’d definitely consult an electrician to confirm things before discounting anything on that front.

I think the one hundred amp panel is a pony panel that takes up two forty amp breakers in the main. COVID meant getting a decent electrician in was tricky. Might try again.

I'm a big fan of the 2022+ Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Over 60 kms of electric range. Also lets the driver choose whether you want all-electric mode or to use the gas engine. Lots of nifty features like a 3rd row seat which folds into the floor.
