Asking $6k for a 2004 Yamaha R6 with 8,500km and new tires. As is, but needs nothing...some small upgrades.

based on other R6s, price seems fair. What do you think?

As long as you're not actually expecting to get that much than no, thats about right. I would expect to get about 5K though but people will low ball you regardless and/or want to bargain so might as well list 1K higher
 
The low mileage doesn't take away from the fact it's a 2004 R6 (one of the less desired years of the R6 IMO as far as looks, right-side-up forks, etc). That's just my opinion though. They're still great bikes and the right buyer might jump on it but it may take a while if you're firm at that price.
 
In terms of prime buying season, when is it? I would expect April and May to be big months.
 
My general rule of thumb is that almost no bike will be worth more than $5K once it's more than 7 years old, regardless of mileage. Sure, it's my completely arbitrary, made-up rule, but I think it works pretty well, except for some exceptions. If your bike is an '04, then it was probably manufactured in '03, which means is coming up on 9 years old...
 
My guess would be about $5,000ish w/safety so asking $6,000 is about right, w/o safety I would guess maybe $4,500ish.

Prime bike buying season would be around june when it is warm and everyone wishes they had a bike.
 
Just for reference this is what I sold one of mine for:

2006 ZX-6R 11,000 kms, Akra skip on, Fender eliminator $3800.00

Probably could have gotten more if it was needed.

I'd say the hot season is early on... May, beginning of June. By the end of June people are realizing they've got a bike in the garage with no time to ride it, and there will be a lot more for sale ads. Hit it now - the first couple of weeks of good weather will allow you to cash in on people experiencing irrational cabin fever.

Anybody got a dirtbike they're looking to sell? I'll pay stupid money for a KTM or Husqvarna in a couple of weeks.

No. That's just what I felt like selling it for. Someone got an awesome deal because I'm generous like that. I still have another exact one in the garage.

but ya that 09 is a great price, you 04...4000$

03/04 zx6 go for under 5000$, so why would your r6 be worth more than that? (the zx6 is far superior in that year range)

just use kijiji as a reference point. always works.

wouldnt pay anywhere near 6k for that bike. yeah, maybe 4k...maybe
