Air Canada

You are right we should make it a annual event perhaps even set aside a month for it.
Actually AC bought back all of its share that the federal gov owned, so it wasn't giving money it was more like a loan. not like that WE scandle bunch that got multi millions canadians will never get back

AC has a very weird record of how they manage things . Broke then buy Nordair , then sell it off , bought some local carrier that did Ontario flights . Gets a federal bailout . Buys Canadian Airways , restructure everything , fire the director of maintenance that did compliance paperwork , he moves to the Atlantic, realize they fired the smart guy , hire him back for a bag of money extra , fire him again, he goes to TransAt , and they buy TransAt and get him back . Oy vey .

The best advertisement for AC is flying literally any of the US airlines. Doesn't matter which, American, Delta, United, they're all awful.

And when I used to fly constantly for work, WestJet was far worse as well. More delays, missed connections etc.
AC is far from perfect, but it's definitely far from the worst. And in case anyone doesn't know, part of the reason they get subsidies as a national airline is they have to fly places that aren't profitable. Whether those subsidies are appropriately sized or good value to Canadians is a different story, but that's at least the intent.

For international flights, we like KLM, but since AC started a direct flight to Rome, we've stuck with that instead of connections at Schiphol, even if it is a nice airport...

I'll never fly American and/or DFW again. We flew into there at 1:30 PM and were supposed to catch a connecting flight at 6 PM. They kept delaying the departure by 30 minutes at a time until they outright cancelled it at 9 PM and told us they would rebook us on a flight the next morning. If they had just said that earlier, I could have booked a hotel room, but by then they were all booked up, so my family had to sleep in the airport sitting in those uncomfortable chairs that are designed to prevent you from lying down. And of course no recourse from AA because it was "due to weather".

i fell for that once, ever since then i just hit booking.com and book a room that has no cancellation penalty.

I thought the ones that allow you to cancel only have no penalty if you do it at least a few hours before check-in?
Can be.

I've come across ones that let you cancel 'last minute' with no penalty. Odds are you're already past normal check in time anyways.

Born in1970 and went to a Catholic school where it was taught that homosexuality (et al) was the devils playground and that people from this community did not deserve our understanding but rather needed to be beaten back to the right way. It was nothing more than indoctrinated hatred. Today I am agnostic and at peace with it and everyone around me.

Something that I shamefully carried into early adulthood. It wasn't until I was in my mid 30's when I finally saw clear of it and put that indoctrination out of my head. To me, a person is either good or not. I do not care what your sexual preference is but understand that it is non of my business. The needle of my life does not move.

I look back on a moment when a a very good man came out to his family in the early 90's. At this point, I was still very uncertain about how I should feel about homosexuality and gave him little comfort. He was admired amongst his family and really considered the nucleus until the day he came out and they kicked him to the curb. I have not seen nor heard of him since and this is hurtful. I find myself thinking about him and how he is doing or if he is still alive. I ask members of his family and no one knows. He deserved love like everyone else. He was always the first to be there and then he was gone.

So yes, I understand why the Pride movement exists and what it's purpose is. Let's face it, as a race we are ******. Intolerant of things we do not understand and remarkably hurtful to those that are different.

Little changes are important.

I grew up in the hell fire for gays when stand up comedians made their money at the expense of gays, blondes, mothers-in-law and woman drivers. Fortunately, politicians have stepped in to provide alternate amusement.

The religious community hypocritically forgave any other "Sin".

Thanks to a gay member here I have accepted it isn't a choice but the way a person is born and not unlike a person being left-handed. Another witch hunt for using the devil's hand.

I understand the Pride movement to a degree but see bullying in some of its actions.

Gay pride month, thirty days. Mothers, fathers and veterans get one day.

I fly 30-40 times a year for work... WJ is my goto when at all possible... the level of service has improved; and while they're not the denim wearing upstart of old, that would end every orientation speech with "and lets get this Boeing going!" they at least pretend to care about their passengers. AC cabin staff makes me feel like I'm an inconvenience. Flair is expensive for nothing (by the time you check a bag and have a carry on; you're at the price of a 'regular' airline with none of the creature comforts)

Porter is really the best in Canada by far - and they're slowly building out their fleet and adding routes - I don't love the Embraer, but it's what they went with, and it's fine.

As for Pride... I have a gay daughter. My wife's uncle was deeply closeted and shamed most of his life, including family members that disowned him when he finally did come out. If you don't know, you don't know. On the surface, it's all rainbows and water guns, sure - but not that long ago, shame, abuse, violence and suicide were all pretty common outcomes to being gay. Pride is important, even if it's gone over the top...

Hmmm, ask a 75 year old homosexual that endured a lifetime of abuse, both mental and physical, and the amount of times they considered suicide if 30 days annually to drive an inclusivity message is too much. Ask the family of someone literally beaten to death over something as innocuous as their sexual preference. Ask people living in regions of the world where homosexuality is still punishable by prison time or death.

Pride month doesn't hurt anyone. It could go a full year and the day of the average person would not change an iota.

That spurs some thought . In this months Toronto Life magazine advice column and gal was asking what to do since a friend wanted to have her bachelorette party in Torontos “village” , but only she , the one writing the letter was gay . She thought the others wanted to go stare at the gays which often have unique looks . It sounded a bit like the village is a closed community. Or this will all be like blackface in two decades .
My hope is eventually everyone can get over this nonsense of cultural appropriation, intolerance and for the minorities, get on with being productive and happy . You’re only a victim if you let yourself be a victim in Canada.

I saw a flag like this flying out front of someones house on the way up to Algonquin yesterday evening.

Pretty much how I feel about things. Who cares what other people choose to do in their private lives, It has zero effect on me, yet it makes them happy, so what's the issue?

Why anyone would let any amount of anger or hatred about that live rent free in their heads is beyond me.
