I think all skiers were wearing airbag vests to protect their core in a crash (at least for the fast races). That's a good step with minimal downside.
While I understand why racers set their bindings so tight as a premature release can trigger a crash with catastrophic consequences, watching the severity of some crashes where they don't release is awful (like Vonn). It would seem to be a relatively small step to tie in the vest sensor to binding release so if your airbag goes off, it also ejects your skis. That solves the problem of chatter causing premature release and I don't think a skier can continue with the vest inflated even if they got back to their feet as looks like it would be hard to breathe. It adds a bit of weight and cost but it seems feasible to me and it can save millions in healthcare costs.
