2025 Day Trips!

Today I was out and about, testing how long of a road trip I can manage on the Monster in a day. I rode out to the Haliburton area and really enjoyed the 507, as well as the roads leading to Fort Irwin and West Guilford. I saw a ton of bikes out there too—great vibes all around!

The verdict: I’m officially in love with the Monster.

Oh, and after 400 km I was definitely feeling it—ended up logging a total of 500 km for the day!1000037434.png

Very nice!

Did you ride on Harburn Rd then either to or from Fort Irwin?
Last year they were repaving a big section of it and I haven't been on it this year - one of my favourite combos is Harburn Rd to Haliburton Lake Rd.

Was lucky enough to get out for a couple nice rides this past week (but not many pics).

On Sunday went up for lunch to Haliburton with a couple guys riding Z1000's. Always wanted to own one of those early models. Started late for me (around 7:30am) and just wanted to get out and wear away the last bit of tread on my tires since it was such a nice day. We rode the 507, Glamorgan, Essonville and Dyno. Also rode on Loop Rd which is getting a fair amount of it repaved, so like usual there was some unexpected gravel on my ride.

On Thursday, took most of the day off work to go pick up my forks and shock from getting serviced at Accelerated Technologies. in Buckhorn. The spring on my Wilbers shock was getting weak, so they suggested swapping it for a new one. They had Ohlins shock on hand that fit, so now I finally have the yellow spring that I've always wanted. Had to be back and ready for a meeting at 3pm, so this one ride started at 6am and also passed through Haliburton again. Rode Deep Bay, Bobcaygeon, Kushog Lake, 35, 118, Dyno and then slowly heading back. The north half of Bobcaygeon is getting redone so it's also gravel.
Finished my work meeting when I got home and slapped the forks and shock on and took it out for a short ride - it feels like a completely different ride, compared to the well used OEM stuff I was temporarily using. No more brake dive, handles the bumps properly and tracks corners beautifully. They do such good work, always make the time to answer questions and are just a pleasure to deal with.

2 days, around 1400km and I'm amazed at how much I flat out love riding this 23 year old bike.
Can't wait for the Solstice Ride that might hit the 1400km mark in the day.

Yesterday's route to and from the shop.

@shanekingsley how was Kushog Lake rd? It's been a while since I went on it, but remember it was quite bumpy, and sandy. Still a nice diversion.

No bumps at all - repaved a year or two ago. And sand free except for one tiny bit that will be washed away in the next rain. It was amazing.

How did you carry the rebuilt forks and shock on the bike for the ride back? I’ve only heard great things about the folks at Accelerated Technology and have seen them at many of the bike shows always patiently answering questions from riders.

The Nelson Rigg tail bag I have on my bike is pretty deep and swallowed it all. I brought a thick polar fleece blanket to wrap the forks in and then bungee corded them tight together and into the tail bag. Then put the shock nicely bubble wrapped in the same bag and strapped it down very snug across the passenger seat and top box plate. Was a little tight for me riding home, but that’s why I did the fun route on the way there and took an easy direct route back.
