Riding Style Questions (lane splitting/filtering and speeding)

Lane splitting - I've never done it, and probably never will... too many clueless car drivers on the road, plus you risk scratching the other cars with your mirrors/handlebars etc. as you go by. Then you have a new problem to deal with. Filtering - Can someone fill me in on what this is...

    Looking for a backpack!

How about getting one of those bags that straps onto your back seat. Then you could leave it there all the time. Here is a tank bag that can also strap onto your back seat and can be worn as a backpack...

Seating position at a turn question

I usually try to keep my butt planted, knees to the tank and countersteer in corners (just as you were instructed by RTI.) The knee down thing seems to be a bit over the top for most riding - it changes the chassis dynamics unnecessarily and causes instability (in 99% of normal street riding)...

    New female rider

Welcome! You might find it interesting to head up to Haugen's BBQ in Manchester (just outside Port Perry) on Thurs nights for bike night. There are between 500-1000 motorcycles of all shapes and sizes there (plus, their bbq chicken dinners are awesome!) Happy riding!

    Jack Layton dead at 61

He was a great Canadian who fought to make life better for all Canadians. He will be sorely missed.

    new rider, first scare

Excellent advice from the other members. If I may add my two cents worth.... if you are not riding with the flow of traffic in the left lane, then get into the right lane. The left lane is meant for passing (although this will be a startling revelation for most drivers.) In my experience, +5...

Tire Changing: Whose the cheapest? (West of Burlington)

I bought and had installed my new tires at Brantford Motorcycle. They did a great job and the price was reasonable. I even posted about it here... http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforum/showthread.php?142145-Thumbs-up-for-this-Brantford-dealership!-(Brantford-Motorcycles)&p=1591359#post1591359

    My first crash..

Good to hear you were not hurt! Just think of what might have happened if you had been at speed on the street, or on a highway and you had to brake suddenly - not a pretty scene. It sounds as though you applied too much rear brake and overcame your tire's grip. Get a new set of tires - you...

    kms per litre

IMHO, there is virtually NO savings overall riding a bike vs. driving a car. The bike is simply a pleasure/therapy thing. While the bike may get better fuel economy, other costs close the gap pretty quickly (ie: new tires every year @$600/set, 2 (or more) oil changes @ $100 each, and using...

    Changing a spark plug

Hey Newblet! In addition to the advice above, the plug will already have a crush washer on it, so you won't need anything else other than the new plug, a suitable spark plug socket and a torque wrench that measures in inch-pounds. Spark plugs generally have a very LOW torque to properly seat...

    The global Debt Clock

Don't be misled... the deficit is the yearly shortfall and the debt is the sum total of all we owe. It isnt just the Feds who owe either.... Ontario has been racking up some pretty healthy deficits in the past few years. In that map from the Economist, it shows Canada's debt at $1.3...

    The global Debt Clock

Amen to that brother! In the big picture, there is a lot of fear being generated by this upheaval going on in the markets. Whenever anything like this (or the crash of 2008 ) happens, it is always somewhat entertaining to ask the question... who wins, and who loses? The market crash of...

    Riding in the rain

This seems like a very unsafe practice, koalaKid. What correlation could there possibly be between your boot soles traction and tire traction? Sounds like a good way to get injured. Nobody has mentioned this yet... be extra careful for the first 15 - 30 minutes after it starts raining. It is...

    Lake Placid NY

Been to Lake Placid a few times... great place! I've stayed at Art Devlin's Olympic Motor Inn in Lake Placed and enjoyed my stay. Great rooms at reasonable prices - but then again, I have always gone in June before the high tourist season begins. Crossed over to the US at Gananoque...

Chain fell off Ninja 250, please help!

This happened to me once. The nut holding the front sprocket in place came loose and the front sprocket fell off. Luckily I was hardly moving at the time. Sounds like the same thing has happened to you. Just one of the many reasons why I now ride shaft driven bikes.
