I tried something along those lines, but couldn't find heavy enough elastic for them.
I now own four sets of Rok Straps, two for the bike and one each for the cages, so I guess I'm a +4 for Rok Straps.
We have an Escape with a trailer hitch. My wife got rear-ended by a Toyota Corolla, and our hitch impaled his front end. Way more damage to his car than ours, but still $800 in repairs for our vehicle.
I wrapped Xmas gifts on Friday evening listening to the doom-forecasting Weathernetwork. Saturday morning I bought a Honda EU2000. We got off lucky though here in Niagara, one minor power blip at my place, but no major outage.
I like being better prepared for the future though!
This would work. In Quebec snow tires are mandatory, but Montreal is also a temperate zone colder than TO, and two temperate zones colder than Niagara.
