I got a bike first too...and rode 10-15k a year until I bought a car...then the bike was just recreation and barely used lol.
I miss commuting with the bike and then I remember how hot it is outside and turn up the AC in my car.
Check steering head bearings by lifting the front end off the ground either by
(1) centre stand and somebody on the rear end as counter balance weight
(2) having somebody pull the bike up on the side stand and rear wheel
(3) using a rear stand and a bottle jack under the bike
(4) bringing it...
White smoke and no coolant may still indicate that your bike is sucking coolant into the engine. The smell from burning/melting plastic is quite distinct and different from coolant being drawn into the cylinder/s

Allan
Running super lean from factory is a problem in my eyes and should be corrected.
I think the OP also said that they were following the factory recommended service when changing the air filter, had a problem with the replacement filter and then swapped back to the original air filter? I hope...
All bikes can benefit from a jetkit even with a stock exhaust. A jetkit will have various jets/needles/clip positions that allow for different configurations (stock exhaust, slipon, full exhaust).
Get both and you'll benefit from less weight, better sound and more HP
