Anyone know how to rejet a 2006 GS500F?

Have you taken apart a gs500 carb before?
Or were those dozens of carbs from different bike models?

sabex i took my gs carbs off a dozen times atleast and about 6 times last week. no stripping what so ever. try this
i used to strip them but i learned a great trick from a mechanic.

1. use a socket wrench
2. find the right size bit
3. tap the head of socket with a hammer two firm wack
4. drop the hammer cover the socket head so it doesnt move
5. turn

it should pop right out.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Popped in stock air filter, bike runs like it used to (the power came back). I've learned something that I should have taken from the IT world: if it ain't broken, don't fix it!

I would say that if by changing your air filter to a higher flow one causes performance issues, your bike is "broken" and should be fixed.

Dunno, you want it? I have no use for it now lol

And @ anark, I tried to follow the owner's manual on when to change stuff, even tho I wasn't having problems...bad idea in the end.

I've heard the bike runs quite lean stock, so if you put some tape or something across the air intake would that richen the mixture enough?

some come with a snorkel. taping up the filter sounds like a pain in the ***, better to just stick with the stock one

i will take that filter if you dont want it...

as a 10 year licensed motorcycle mechanic.

yeah but every gs comes super lean from the factory. for example my idle jets were 37.5 stock. when i put my k&n drop in... my bike performed very poorly. so did the OP so did one more guy i know. and everyone in the GS500 boards has has same issues. these bike are way leaner then others and very unstable to filter changes

this is just how it is with the GS.

So, yeah. About those screws...
THEY'RE NOT PHILLIPS HEAD! They look very similar to philips head, but they're JIS (Japanese International Standard http://www.instructables.com/id/Whe...lips/step10/JIS-Japanese-Industrial-Standard/) They're designed to not cam out, so a regular philips head will strip it (combined with the metal being soft: can be a major problem.)
You can buy a special JIS screwdriver, or use one of the many other methods people have used to remove them.

That guide is amazing, I'm going to print it out and put it on my ceiling so I can memorize it in my sleep.

Running super lean from factory is a problem in my eyes and should be corrected.

I think the OP also said that they were following the factory recommended service when changing the air filter, had a problem with the replacement filter and then swapped back to the original air filter? I hope that doesn't mean the OP just put the old (dirty) air filter back on the bike to "correct" the problem.

Running lean means the engine is running hot, using a dirty air filter, while it may temporarily hide the fuel/air mix problem, does not solve it.

The solution is rejetting and following factory recommended service.

Good luck.
