Vote for the scala. Me and the gf use it and it works well. Lotsa settings to custmize it to your liking. Buttons are a little fidgety to use, but im under the impression itll be like that for all comms because of the gloves you use.

Maybe 1 on 1 training session will do you better? I dont think any school will turn you down for whatever course you need provided that you meet the requirements (m1/m2).
You've read the cautions and warnings from people in this thread. But this is your first bike, so the chances of going down and having insurance involved is considerably higher. Pay to play, or dont play at all.
Take into consideration how much your time is worth when fixing up bikes. You may have made money by adding up the numbers, but don't forget your labour. Time is money

Im using a Scala. Great for riding 2 up or in groups. Also good for music or talking, clear reception. If you feel youll get distracted easily, dont get it. Otherwise its a great tool.
