Recent movies you saw - recommend or no

Was curious about these 28 days later, 28 weeks later movies. I got the impression they were popular, had a fan base, and they released a newer movie so much later. But I couldn't get into them. Too many rough edges is the best way I can describe it.

Watched the 'I like me' documentary about John Candy on Prime.

Actually enjoyed it, and the man was a gem of a human being from all accounts that I've seen.

Been over 20 years now that he's been gone.
I didn't have the pleasure of meeting him, when I worked at the airport parking lot back in the early to mid '80s, but fellow staff who did had great things to say about him.

Not seen it yet but apparently there’s a Peaky Blinders movie that’s just come out. The TV series was awesome. Cilian Murphy stars as a Gypsy gang leader in Birmingham for anyone that hasn’t seen the series. Definitely recommended.

world needs more Merkels.... well done docu and inspiring.... (y)

coming up next week

Tonight....
the movie that almost literally killed Coppola
What a crazy time ...too many weird memories for me...some bad

the making of is terrific too..

Apocalypse
My occasional GF from Niagara Falls came crying to me.
Her brother….in final year of med school, a Canadian, was drafted, promised medical work behind the lines
Instead sent to front line and dead in two weeks….a Jewish white, smart kid …they were out to get him and did.
Have not got over it…my simmering anti- yank sentiment got radicalized that week.

there were others….
Bolivian - Lieutenant friend of ours - family all doctors….found out where he was being sent….deserted…lost his career and his family who never forgave him ….worked with my wife at the hospital ,,,they were very close.

damn….crumb_head_explode.jpg
Weird being in Australia - they sent troops....very different mindset.🤷‍♂️

The film stands the test of time

terrific production values and sound track….something about wide screen film that works and having HDR now helps with the darker scenes

Never liked Brando and he was impossible to work with on this…obese and odious

Some scary sequences and some truly psychedelic
but the wide screen really works.

Duvall was perfect - so was Denis Hopper …the flat narrative from Sheen was just excellent counterpoint to the horror
Harrison Ford looks ridiculously young

How Coppola pulled that all off in horrendous condition is insane. He has an amazing eye as a director/cinematographer

  • Apocalypse Now (Film, 1979):
    • Academy Awards (1980): Won Best Cinematography (Vittorio Storaro) and Best Sound. Nominated for Best Picture and Best Director.
    • Golden Globes (1980): Won Best Director (Francis Ford Coppola), Best Supporting Actor (Robert Duvall), and Best Original Score.
    • Cannes Film Festival: Won the prestigious Palme d’Or.
