Public mobile (Telus) usually has a plan for 60gbish 5G of can/us/mx for around $40. Just need to keep an eye out. Can always jump to a new plan when a better deal comes along with no penalty.

Like @GreyGhost , I've been with Freedom for just over a year, signed up in December '24. My experience has largely been great, but I was coming from Telus, not Rogers (better out west but not as robust in Ontario), so that's my point of comparison.
On the whole, the switch has basically been invisible. I haven't noticed any functional difference, driving or in town. Granted, I spend 95% of my time between Hamilton , Kitchener and Toronto, so all places with good coverage. We've done a few camping trips, and coverage has been as good as my wife's Telus phone, if not better. Handset might play into that as well, I'm on a Pixel 9 Pro, she's on an S23+. I like not fussing about hooking into US towers at the border, though travel there has been a non-issue since the start of the 51st state nonsense. We also did a trip to Italy, and it was nice to not have to pay $15/day and have some time to sort out the eSim (Saily was great) and keep the package small because I knew I had a data buffer.
I've been happy enough that we just switched four other lines in our house over from Telus, which is cutting our bill in half. I also like not giving my money to Telus, Bell or Rogers, at least not directly. Quebecor is, I'm sure, far from perfect, but 'least worst' comes to mind...
(Cogeco has also recently started offering cell plans, and for very cheap, at least to begin with. But we didn't want to roll the dice with them until things have been up and running for a while... )

But, I hate using cell phones, so I'm on the $149/yr 30gb plan. I only used 2.7gb in my 1st yr (dec 30th). The phone works just like it did on Bell, never any issues.
Two csr's I've dealt with at their store were perfect, and assisted clueless me on setup, initially, and topping up a couple weeks ago.
One thing I like (don't know if it's other telcos do too) the price is locked in for life.......so get a plan you'll be happy with.

It won't go up but you are free to sign up for a different plan if you want. I am paying $35/phone. I doubt I will see a much lower price. I get more data than I need (something like 100gb/mo). I won't be surprised if I could get more data for the same price but it doesn't matter to me as I only use a few gb/phone.
Rogers win back keeps calling me (I think, still trying to confirm if real or scam 833-434-5070).
We went to freedom more than a year ago and service is not nearly as good. Even when connecting to rogers tower near my house, service is much worse (intentionally degraded?). Driving through vaughan almost always results in dropped calls as it switches from nationwide to freedom network. Call display (for others) shows up with your number but no name, wtf is that?

Prices increase by $5 after first year but are then permanent. $80 activation fee with $5 bill credit until activation fee is repaid. There are also Fido plans with less data. Hard to write everything down as an indian lady is reading off a sheet.
Offer seems solid. Similar price to what I am paying Freedom (and less than half of what I was previously paying rogers). They refuse to send anything in writing (big red flag even if it's rogers and not a scam).

You could have had a similar plan from public mobile, no activation fee, 500 international minutes and includes Mexico in the data roaming plan.
Koodo is/does offer slightly less for more but more network priority.
Never seen an increase, I jump plans with no penalty when a better one shows up. No contract. Example;
I haven't checked my data usage in a while but I expect I rarely go over 2 gigs per phone. The high limits are mostly a game where they can argue at crtc that canada is cheap per gig and they keep lowering rates. I'd much rather have 20 gigs for $19 than 120 for $38. They know the vast majority of users to not approach the limits so higher limits cost them zero.
Also when you're travelling and staying in places without wifi, streaming services chew up a lot of bandwidth.
