Science news of the day

I considered going light on my last roof replacement to reduce thermal absorption. Going a little lighter would have made almost no difference. To make a difference, the roof would have been close to white. It would have worked to reduce thermal absorption but damn would it have been ugly (roof is very visible on this house) and cost was way up so I doubt savings would ever have happened. If I had a flat roof, white would have made a bigger difference with less downside.

The coating in the article appears to make the biggest difference at night. I doubt it would have a noticeable impact on an individual house (feel or bills) but could help reduce the heat island in a city. With a few more generations of development, maybe it could be applied via crop duster and the city coated in it.
FWIW a dark shingle roof gets into scald temperatures in summer. I got second degree burns from working on mine for a day.

I was told there would be aliens in November….

Maybe some is slipping them into the dumpf' dishes. Seems akin to his worldview. :sneaky:

Good news indeed but these news articles about breakthroughs that are published by the organization involved are also about raising money too.

Sadly, the hype often results in little hope as people fail to realize the stage of the supposed cure. Then there's the embellished version as the article gets passed on.

Someone finds a new berry growing somewhere as says it might be a cancer cure. The info gets passed on that they're going to be testing it as a cure. Then it's being tested (which it isn't). Then it's an experimental drug which again it isn't.

Five years later and it's just another berry to put on your cereal. Hopefully not too many people have spent their savings on desperation cures in Mexican clinics.
