Is kijiji no longer a thing?

FBMP is getting worse and worse with scammers infiltrating it. I sell and buy on it but fairly low dollar value goods (except motorcycles).

For that type of item…I’d just go to the closest specialist card / collector shop and get the low ball offer, ask for more, and come to a number that works.

Otherwise list it in lots on eBay and see where that takes you.

With ads on Kijiji and FB I ended up selling everything on FB. Almost all of my used bikes come from Kijiji though..
Kijiji has a great search function but the traffic is just not there.

Really depends on what you're selling. If I'm looking for a nice used bicycle or typical small item I don't bother looking on kijiji. For cars I'll include kijiji/autotrader in my search. Autotrader tends to be an older/better crowd to buy from.
When I sold my sportscar last year most of the replies were from marketplace but the buyer ended up being from kijiji. Selling my SUV the year prior I had 30 marketplace replies and one kijiji reply over the 36hrs it took to sell.

I have always preferred Kijiji but just as many others, I have moved over to use FB marketplace.

They are both better then the other in their own respective ways.

But I feel there is more choice on FB and will only use Kijiji now if my search comes up empty on FB .

Visited a specialised shop, the first card I showed, my Captain America is apparently worth $160 if graded, dealing with bigger issues, just want them gone.
I don't know Sweet F*&k All about the cards you're wanting to get rid of, but I had a modest collection of hockey cards that I just wanted to be rid of last spring.

My collection had a handful of older cards with some moderate value, 4 Oh-Pee-Chee sets from the mid eighties (pre-junk-wax era), a few autographed cards, and the bulk being late eighties/early nineties junk-wax sets and singles. All combined it fit into 3 heavy and bulky totes. I spent multiple hours sorting the cards into their series and cataloging the complete sets.

I looked at online resellers first. There are a couple of them that run ebay auctions on your behalf, but unless your cards are worth a lot, you'll come out the other end with nothing as their fees have a floor, and their auctions are time limited and when the auction ends and you have no bids they keep the card.

To get a better idea about value, I visited a card show. They take place across the GTA pretty much every weekend, and of course you can see what then asking prices are, and most vendors are happy to talk to you about what you have. With the stuff you're talking about, you will probably make out better than me as there is likely more of a market for your stuff.

I found out that the grading thing is a giant scam (my opinion). There's multiple companies, local and international that provide grading services and for the most part the cost of the service exceeds the value of the cards. From what I heard, the local services carry no weight or value in the larger market.

In the end, I listed the small collection of old cards in varying condition as a single lot on Kijiji first. I scanned the cards so it showed the condition well. I got 6 replies in a few hours, with one guy wasting some time but another meeting me here in Port Hope and taking them all at a price I was happy with.

After my investigations and research, I came to the realization that the bulk of my collection was essentially worthless. Sure, some rookie cards from that era (Federov, Sakic etc.) would show up on sites offered for a few dollars but the volume of these things produced back then STILL exceeds demand by a wide margin.

I placed another ad on Kijiji listing everything and offering it for free. I received 4 or 5 responses, attempted to make arrangements with the first guy who responded but he turned out to be a flake. Moved on to the second guy and made arrangements to meet. He was really grateful, was surprised that it was all free, but understood why.

I kept the autographs and the 4 sets that have some value, but I'll list them sooner or later. I'll keep the autographs as most of the guys are dead and some of the cards are personalized.

I got a nice text from the purchaser a day or so later thanking me again. Apparently he was in his basement flipping through the cards re-living his youth.

There’s a rudimentary ratings thing on Marketplace which is better than nothing. Otherwise I get sick and tired of the no shows and the replies to a post that says “free first come first served” “hi, will you deliver it….for free too?”.
I added a caweat to my FBM posts.

Note. To successfully purchase this item you must successfully purchase this item.

Inexplicably, Facebook Marketplace has almost entirely killed Kijiji. When I lived in BC, everyone used Craigslist. Moving back to Ontario, I was bummed to find everyone used Kijiji, which was far less useful except for searching across a broader area. Now, with FB Marketplace having almost totally taken over the free/local classifieds space, I pine for the days of Kijiji. Marketplace is so busted, the search function is hilariously bad, and the time waster/scammer ratio is far worse.

Ensh*ttification at the most egregious...

Agent Rob

( 1m 19s ) Carrol : Subject

This is now my sixth request for assistance, and it has been over 24 hours since this issue was first reported.

There is still:

No resolution

No correction

No accountability

The ad I paid for still does not appear where it was paid to appear and remains effectively useless.

Your ongoing incompetence has caused me hours of wasted time, repeated explanations of the same issue, and escalating frustration all while you continue to hold my money.

To make matters worse, the overcharged ad now shows a total of 13 page views, which only further highlights how broken your system is. That level of exposure after paid placement is unacceptable and renders the ad worthless. Any remaining visibility appears to be the result of users stumbling across it not because your platform is functioning as advertised.

At this point, the problem is not the ad.

The problem is Kijiji.

This level of operational failure, combined with dismissive and ineffective support, explains exactly why users are abandoning this platform in large numbers. Kijiji has become a sinking ship with no one at the helm.

I am a disgusted Kijiji user, and I expect either:

Immediate correction and a full refund, or

Written confirmation that Kijiji is unable or unwilling to deliver the service it sells

Anything less will continue to be documented publicly.

Regards,
Carrol Rayner
( 1m 19s ) Rob: Welcome to Kijiji's Live Chat! I would be delighted to help, please allow me a quick moment to review your request before we get started.
( 2m 34s ) Rob: I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with the ad posting. So from what I gather is that you are experiencing issues searching for the ad am I correct?
( 2m 51s ) Carrol Rayner: IT IS NOTNTHERE
( 4m 0s ) Carrol Rayner: yOU HAVE IT BLOCKED REQUIRING A USER USING A FILTER - IT IS NOT THE AD I POSTED AND WAS SEVERLY OVERCHARGED FOR
( 5m 1s ) Rob: The Wanted ad is certainly searchable and comes up in every search for the Wanted category in Classic Cars. However yes, if a user is looking for Wanted ads, they do have to change the filter to Wanted, as the default filter is the "I am offering" category
( 5m 9s ) Rob: https://www.kijiji.ca/b-classic-car...=44.6508608,-63.5923256&radius=50.0&view=list
( 5m 19s ) Carrol Rayner: THE SYSTEM SUCKS WHO WOULD OVERPAY FOR AND ADD THAT HAS HAD LESS THAN 13 VIEWS IN24 HOURS IN ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR CATEGORIES
( 5m 20s ) Rob: As you can see, the ad appears in the Wanted category, as advertised
( 5m 37s ) Rob: Well that is subjective
( 5m 42s ) Carrol Rayner: THAT IS JUST STUPIC
( 6m 3s ) Carrol Rayner: I PAID FOR AN AS IN THE CLASSIC CAR SECTION
( 6m 53s ) Carrol Rayner: THERE WAS NO WARNING THAT IT WOULD NOT BE SHOWN UNLESS SOMEONE USED THE FILTER FOR WANTED
( 6m 53s ) Rob: The ad is in the correct Wanted Classic Cars Category, which I did provide you with the link that clearly indicates the ad is in the Wanted Cars & Vehicles > Classic Cars
( 7m 37s ) Carrol Rayner: ALL I WANT IS THE FILTER TO BE REMOVED AND THE ADD PLACED FOR WHERE I WANTED IT AND WAS SEVERLY OVERCHARGED FOR
( 8m 3s ) Rob: It would not make sense having Wanted ads appear in the "I am offering" category. All users that post their Wanted ads are perfectly understanding and appreciate that their Wanted ad is in the correct category.
( 8m 16s ) Carrol Rayner: READ THE AD -
( 8m 28s ) Carrol Rayner: THAT EXCUSE MAKES NO SENSE
( 8m 29s ) Rob: Unfortunately that will not happen Carrol
( 8m 39s ) Rob: Well that is your subjective opinion
( 9m 18s ) Carrol Rayner: THEN I WILL CARY ON POSTING THIS TO EVERY FRAUD AND SCAM SITE IN THE WORLD
( 10m 1s ) Rob: You can go ahead Carrol, what you do on your end is up to you. Just be aware that on our end, all this, is your fault. You should have familiarized yourself on how Kijiji works prior to posting.
( 10m 2s ) Carrol Rayner: MY JOB IS TO PROST FOR ALLLTRA.CO
( 10m 41s ) Carrol Rayner: YOUR JOB SHOULD BER TO LOOK AFTER AN UNHAPPY CUSTOMER AND CORRECT THE ISSUES WITH YOU STUPID PROGRAMMING
( 13m 9s ) Rob: Actually you are wrong Carroll, Live Chat's job is not to be caretaker of ad postings and when users are careless when posting. My job is to educate on Kijiji policies and Tech Support. Since the ad itself, there's absolutely no technical issues with it, so it does not require tech support. Your job as a user is to read our Terms and Conditions to familiarize on how to navigate the platform. If you did not properly educate yourself on how the categories work, that's on you Carrol, not us.
( 13m 19s ) Carrol Rayner: OKAY GOING TO CANCEL THE AD - PUT A CHARGE BACK ON MY AMEX CARD AND NEVER USE KIJIJI AGAIN FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE IS MUCH BETTER ANYWAYS
( 13m 46s ) Carrol Rayner: YOUR ABOVE POST IS JUST STUPID
( 13m 59s ) Rob: Good for you, just be aware that when you file a payment dispute, the credit card company will contact us to investigate on what happened and we will let them know exactly the cause of your dispute.
( 14m 2s ) Carrol Rayner: NO WONDER KIJIJI IS LIKE A SINKING SHIP
( 14m 19s ) Rob: Have a great rest of the day Carrol. I do wish you luck on your ad

SINCE ADEVINTA BOUGHT KIJIJI AND ITS PARENT COMPANY EBAY PAGE VIEWS ARE NON EXISTANT RATES RISE WEEKLY ANBD THYE RIP YOU OFF ON CHARGES ND REFUSE TO REFUND - HAD TO CANCEL AD AND CHARGE BACK AMERICAN EXPRESS AND THEY NOW CLAIM THAT I CANCELLED AD AND ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR REFUNDING -
