I see the mistake. The shouldn't have charged him with both Careless Operation Causing Death (HTA) and Criminal Operation Causing Death. Under The Charter you can't be found guilty of the same crime, twice. The guilty pleading under the HTA immediately invalidated the criminal charges. Rookie stuff. The penalty under the HTA charge is up to two years. The 18 months that was proposed by The Crown feels appropriate, given the charge and potential penalty. Hell, many trucks now have proximity warnings that start screaming at you the moment that sensors detect a vehicle within a given distance and that he only reacted 0.4 seconds before impact is, to coin a phrase, criminal.

Both? Add in provincial negligence as a third factor. They made a snow ramp up and over the wall. Someone already launched off it that day. They promise to clear the death ramp in the coming days. I think that will be a hard fight in court. Province doesn't deserve 100% of the blame, but a lot more more zero seems reasonable. Mto kept bridge closed until snow was cleared after this crash. Typical government, wait until someone dies and then take action.

Three from Brampton. Any wonder that so many truckers, who are involved in incidents, have a Brampton address? I feel less safe here on a daily basis.
You'd have trouble finding a Quik-E-Mart in Brampton that doesn't sell CDLs out of their stockroom.
