Auto Dealerships

One Taco problem is they can only program one tire sensor code , change to snows on rims ( Toyota rims and sensors) and you need to give Toyota thirty bucks to reprogram or stare at the warning light all winter .
Same with remote start. In the twenty twenty three it’s a subscription. Want to start your truck with the remote that’s already in the truck? Twelve bucks a month please. I hate this friggin half a truck , TRDPro my arse .

I've heard that. Aren't they mostly electronic related?

Biggest issue confirmed by Toyota themselves is with the 8-speed transmission, problems from delayed shifting to outright failures. Check engine lights, front differential, various noises coming from the chassis/doors, etc.

I chalk it up to first MY teething problems. If I recall, the first year 3Gens also had some reliability problems which caused Toyota to slip from the JD Powers list. Previous gen Tacomas have always had a 6-speed auto which, although clunky and prone to hunting, was time-tested and reliable. For them to have issues with a brand new 8-speed... not good, but not entirely surprising.

They've also got really, REALLY expensive.

I think that's the rub for a lot of owners. They paid through the teeth with expectations of legendary Toyota quality and were rewarded with TSBs and multiple warranty claims.

AFAIK most of the issues have been addressed with the 2025s and onwards.

6+ years in, my 3Gen is going strong, I don't see myself trading it in for a 4Gen. Love mid-sized trucks. Maybe a 5Gen in another 6+ years? 12 years seems to be my average for keeping cars and trucks.

Nissan used to be..... Datsun.
Take that for what it's worth.
Doesn't matter as it's been decades. I have no issue recommending Nissan nowadays to someone looking.

They're a decent option, and I'd say have picked up their quality considerably from years gone by.

Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevy all have issues...Nissan does also. For some reason it got this bad quality reputation and can't seem to shake it regardless of what they come out with.

My biggest turnoff right now is their use of teeny tiny engines for the Rogues....1.5T seems like it's 1L too small for the size of car it hauls.

Cousin has a 2019 or something with 800,000kms or more, minimal issues and still on the same engine and transmission. For a car with such bad quality, and so many kms...I'm shocked the thing is still kicking.

I owned a couple of Nissans back in the day. The transmissions were terrible relative to the rest of the industry. Their CVT implementation over-revs unnecessarily, had a bad delay in the acceleration and the pre-CVT autos wore badly over time (I think it was linkage or shift cable?) so shifting between P, D or R would be a royal pain and yes, I did use the hand brake every time I parked the car.

What model?

I don't want to rain on your parade, but Nissan is not Toyota or Honda in terms of reputation and they have had huge issues with CVT reliability across a range of models.

Dealers make price concessions to move slow selling vehicles off the lot. There's a reason a new car sits on a dealer's lot for a year unsold.
Fair. It was a leftover Z Performance with a manual transmission and they ordered it in for me from another dealer since they did not have stock. It was not on my radar, but priced the same as a 6 year old BMW M2 with 79000KM
