Recent movies you saw - recommend or no

Watched some of The Fantastic Four - First Steps ... pretty meh. Liked the cool retro 60's aesthetic, but you can tell they tried to dial things back and keep the movie grounded. Also felt the casting choices were just off, or awful. Ben and Johnny specifically.

was there anyone NOT in that movie ..damn what a cast

and not to mention Olivier
No CGI - guess there were lots of DC-3 still flying and some actual footage I'd guess. They spent $27 million in 1977 .... a sizeable chunk. The book was great too...been a long while since I read it. Can't recall seeing Hopkins in a uniform.
There are 14 Oscar® winners associated with the movie, seven of them actors (though none earned their Academy® Awards for this picture).
The print is very good
James Caan was excellent, RyanO'Neal not cast well, the book was better.....worth the watch...mostly.

The story behind the Norfolk county bank robbery is Bonnie and Clyde worthy , yet gets so little attention. Robber , a WW vet and machinist is also a counterfeiter making fifty cent pieces , he robs the bank to upgrade his equipment. Picks Langdon , since it’s far enough from Windsor his home to be secretive. Even the executioner botched the hanging and he took fifteen minutes to strangle . Great read if you can find the book .

Yeah I enjoyed it - glad you did
...
Been bingeing war movies. Glad Netflix is curating.
Glad I caught A Bridge Too Far as it just switched over to pay for view. Not the best movie of the genre but such a cast.
......
Watching this
True events. Big time oversaturated colour, tho that may have been on purpose as a flashback:eek: Lovely accents.
......
This was more moving than I guessed from the start, mainly they had a number of the people that were there talking at the end.
Well done Canadian film on a shoe string budget.....tip of the spear....the first assault team to reach and capture their objective on D-Day. 1600 landed...1200 casualties
They had a couple of Germans who were there as well.

Watched some of The Naked Gun 2025.

More for curiosity then anything.
It's bad, not even in a fun way. Liam is just miss cast here, it's hard to look past him being the guy from Taken, or any other tough guy role. Pam Anderson was a good choice though.
I tried and lasted about 10 minutes. So bad!

Apparently the two of them are a thing now.

Clint looking very old ...good role.

Oscar for Oldman....good actor
Great closing line from Halifax when asked "what just happened"?
his answer
"Churchill mobilized the English language and sent it into battle"

Nice to see Lily James..
First look at Gary Oldman as Churchill in Darkest Hour | Daily Mail Online
yummy girl

I've never been big on conspiracy theories, but always thought that the JFK assassination story was a bit odd. Rounds fired off so quickly and accurately at a moving car and so convenient to have the assassin killed off the next day. But, hey, the Warren Commission investigated this thoroughly and what would they have to hide?

Rush to Judgement is a 98 minute documentary by Mark Lane, an attorney that was to represent the accused at the Commission and be able to ask questions or cross examine witnesses and to also present witnesses of his own. He was denied standing at the Commission.

Lane interviews a number of witnesses and asks question the Commission never did, as well as interviewing witnesses who were never called.

All interesting and entertaining, and leaves you wondering just what really happened behind the scenes before Kennedy was shot.

On Prime Video.

Rush to Judgment (1967) ⭐ 7.9 | Documentary

Perhaps the most astonishing survival movie ever
True story ....the book is terrific. What actually happened verges on the unbelievable.

From watching I can see so far the series are the complete unedited original Swedish Trilogy and may have some extended scenes. Certainly one of THE best Swedish productions and a marvelous set of books. The back story of the author is sad as he never lived to see his sucess.

Really glad those three Dragon Tattoo movies are available and may be an extended version. Millennium (miniseries) - Wikipedia If you have not seen any of movies or read the excellent book trilogy you are in for a treat. Well worth your time and the three movies cover the three books very well. Noomi Rapace was an inspired casting choice and far better choice than for American movie choice

I never got past the first movie. It made me want to put a bullet into the head of every male character.

Watched Caught Stealing last night. Some whoa twists. It was surprisingly good. Schreiber and D'Onofrio were funny and scary.

Yeah - the story gets wilder and Lisbet takes thorough revenge - damaged goods perfectly portrayed by Rapace. I thought her revenge on the guardian particularly delicious.....in person and in court.
Her bro one of the scarier characters evah.
You gotta persist

What a fantastic set of interlocked stories
One of the best antiheroes ever.

This I did not know

The boy who kicked the hornets’ nest: Stieg Larsson’s double life as an...

His Millennium trilogy was a worldwide hit. But to the Swedish author, it was only ever a sideshow to his true life’s work: fighting fascism, racism and rightwing extremism

Millenium TV series 6 episodes
What a satisfying rework of the 3 movies with 110 additional minutes. I cannot see any reason why they tried to do a fourth book/movie. Stupid commercialism trying capitalize on a brilliant work by a dead author.
