They are all so young ....sighThe main cast of the movie "State of Grace" includes Sean Penn, Ed Harris, Gary Oldman, and Robin Wright. Other notable actor in the film is John Turturro
If I remember correctly one of the controversies, at the time, was that they swapped through multiple SFX companies during shooting. ILM is listed as primary, but it seems to me they were the final one used.Revisited this over the weekend:

The directors cut version. I think it's still holds up pretty well, and is probably the most true to TOS version of a Trek movie. Before the slippery slope after Wrath of Khan. Still has some pacing issues, and they could have fleshed out the dialogue a bit better, but it all mostly works. Some of the FX is a bit rough. But there is a grandness to the movie which I like, epic if you will, which is missed from modern movies.
It's a bit before my time, I was a "wee lad" when the movie came out. Wrath of Khan was more my gen, I remember seeing that movie playing everywhere they were selling VCR's. As for the motion picture I saw it on TV at some point, which apparently is a different version than the release, kinda typical. Either way the model they created of the Enterprise was fantastic. If I remember correctly one of the controversies, at the time, was that they swapped through multiple SFX companies during shooting. At the time of release we hadn't seen any Star Trek since the animated series, in 1975, so it was more than welcome. They kind of overdid it, though, with what felt like 15 minutes of flying around the new Enterprise when I saw it in the theatre. It's a bit before my time, I was a "wee lad" when the movie came out.
