Forecast called for 20°C so I Carpe Diemed the f*ck out of this awesome first day of Spring!

Had an early breakfast with a buddy and we took all the back roads up to the next town up north. Buddy had to work, so I dropped him back off after lunch and decided to keep on riding.

Rode down to the next town south and climbed up the hills to see where the snow line started. Didn't take long to find it:

Rode a bit further but the layer of ice covering the trail got thicker and that, combined with a steep slope, made it too slippery for non-studded tires :(

Did another hill climb to a place we always go to for lunch, still up at elevation though. The way up was fairly clean for most of the way with the exception of snow and ice in the shade. Temps dropped to about 11°C close to the lodge and I had to do a bit of ice-breaking:

Gross. But at least it wasn't uphill, so I just rode it out

Made it!

....aaaand they're closed. Haven't opened for the season yet...

It's a shame, this place has the best Garlic Truffle Parmesan Fries!

Rode back down to lake level... ah warm again!

I enjoy long braaaaps on the beach

I ended up staying out the whole day, burning up over a tank of gas. This winter has been the mildest one since I've moved out west. I've done the most winter riding this season than any other year I've ridden!

It's shaping up to be a great year!!!

It's been the warmest winter out here too in the GTA (although this week is chilly at low single digits for highs).

boys, its 7 pm and I can still see the sun

Yeah, that's cool, but I just glanced out my window and it's also snowing, so....there's that.

I think we escaped the worst of it to the point that the salters had to go out at least. What's coming down hasn't been sticking out this way.

Bunch of -8 and -10's overnight for the next few days and still cold even into the middle of next week. Blech.

I was driving home late afternoon in the sunshine, 5 minutes later it looked like a giant white curtain coming across the 404. The Waze app changed to direct me to the 407 as I am taking the entrance to it the sheer wind power and blinding snow for the next 5 minutes was wild. Tossed my Forester from right edge of the lane to the left so quickly. Ten minutes later it was over. Up north must be way worse. 1st day of spring my ***.

I visited Phil last September. He wasn't on duty so I left him a note on a piece of paper. Asking for a short winter and a hot spring.

Maybe the note got blown away by the wind and he didn't get to read it. (I think I may have addressed it to the "Dumb Rat". Maybe he got offended)

Actual measurable snowfall actually in the forecast for tomorrow and into the evening/overnight it seems, and apparently it's a widespread system, not just squalls like yesterday, so it seems like we'll be back to square one again boys and girls. Expect the sanders and salters to be out in full force. Maybe even the plows by the sounds of the forecasts in some areas.

Glad I rode my ass off the last few weeks while the opportunity presented itself.

😕

Me too! Looks like I'm stuck for a while at 4,925 km for the year so far, at least until tomorrow's snow is gone. (That is if it actually amounts to what the weather is saying.)

We didn't get a lot of snow in Port Perry yesterday but lots of blowing, near white outs and the roads were very icy. I could spin my winter tires on my manual VW Golf even in 4th or 5th gear. Beautiful here in Vaughn but I wouldn't be able to ride in Port Perry because of risk of drifting snow and ice

..Tom

Shoveled 4-5" of that white stuff this morning, at least it wasn't heavy like the last one, when the heck was that.

I am very happy I got my ONE ride in this year so far :ROFLMAO:

Good thing I'm going on vacation for a couple of weeks. Hopefully, the white stuff will stop by the time I'm back.

If you have my luck, it'll be 20 degrees and beautiful here the entire week and yet raining and crappy where you end up, then you can watch all your riding buddies back home posting photos of themselves being out riding.

(This is kinda what happened to me when I went away in February lol)

I feel you.

I just came back from Mexico two weeks ago. The weather here was nice, and read that tons of you went for a ride. In my case I got sick with the flu while being there. FML and stupid weak immune system.

You need to stop limiting yourself to only riding on Sundays. 😜
Funny thing is I made up that name up for the first m/c board I joined (CMG Online), figured that was the only day I was riding when the kids were little. Once they got older I started to commute to work with the bike and rode a lot, then 10 years ago commute was getting tedious too much stop on go on the way home (left early in the mornings so that was the fun part). Now sadly once the chores are done it is back to Sundays!
